Wallaby is your bootloader screen kind of like what a bios is to a computer... but anyways ... how were you trying to upgrade your sx56? using your SD (flashing) card or through your sync (cradle) to update?

okay, this is how you're gonna do it via SD flashing...
What you need:
SD Card w/ Reader (not cradle)
XDA Tools
Thats It!
1. Go to http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ and click on PPC 2002...
Under "select your base rom" select 3.14.40 ENG T-Mobile US if you have Tmobile, if you have at&t, choose this one A.20.17 ENG Siemens ..if neither don't worry about it...either one..
In the "Select your own Operator config" select No Autoconfig data..
There's a lot of cool stuff in there, if you have time to try them out, but for now thats all you need for the sake of recovering your pda...
2. Once you selected your options, the last part under "how would you like your rom?" click on zipped nk.nb1 (SD-card flashing)..
3. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/XDAtools ..... download xdatools, this is what copies your operating system onto your sd card so you can get it on your pda...
4. Follow those instructions, but I'll simplify it for ya...
Once xdatools is installed, go to start --> Programs --> and then wherever OSImageTool.exe is...open that up..and then there's two text bars, the top one is where you open up your nk.nb1 (by the way, its going to be in a zip, and you're going have to extract it), and then the bottom text bar, just click on the arrow, and then point to where your SD card is..
Once you get it onto your SD card, put it in your pda... To load up wallaby, hold your top left power button (the one you use to put turn off the screen), and while holding that, press the soft reset button on the bottom left (the side of the green phone)...Wallaby will automatically recognize that you want a new OS on it, just hit the center of the cursor to download it...takes about 5 minutes, after that, you'll be set...
Good luck..

SD-flashing is your answer again...
do you want to use it for cingular or at&t?
If you want AT&T, like I said earlier, just do the A.20 Siemens rom...if you want cingular, do this..
http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board...ssage.id=11095
I've tried both and they work!!

thanks a lot for helping me out in the 1st case.....
in the 2nd case (unlocking T-Mobile) i applied both of your techniques, but none of them couldn't remove the code...
in both cases, whether it's siemens or t-mobile, whenever i try with XDAunlock, it says "error getting unlock code" and it always asks for the unlock code, "SID".
how can i get rid of this problem?
TIA

okay after getting your rom loaded onto your pda, you have to go to start-programs, and go to the phone folder... in the phone folder, you double click on xdalock and then it'll give you message about how it only can be used for one company, to change this press okay or something like that..but once it's unlock...then you can put your sim card in it and use it like that...

i don't know what's wrong, every time i go to start-programs, then to the phone folder and then whenever i click on xdaunlock, it shows the message "error getting unlock code". there's no message about how it can be used for one company or anything like that.
what will i do ?

Are you using the the rom from the link I gave you? cuz thats the one that supports the xda unlock, I remember when I had the tmobile rom on the phone and tried to unlock the phone, I got the same error as you did..but when I put the new rom (step by step) from the link, I just used xdaunlock and boom, just like that, it was unlocked...
I guess you're not getting the same luck as I did, good luck...
