Hi, I just bought a brand new never opened Siemens SX56 on eBay. I just found out that none of the firmware updates are available for this phone. I'm concerned because it's basically the original version from the manufacturer.

I also know that Siemens stopped giving the free Microsoft Pocket Pc 2003 OS.

My main hope is to find someone who may have done these upgrades and still has the files. I'm really desperate to get these updates because it was suppose to solve issues. I know I should have done my research on this phone before buying. I'm stuck with this phone now and can't get an update for it. If you know who carries these updates for this phone, please let me know. Thanks so much.

Yes I updated mine although I had downloaded it from the Siemens website prior to them removing it. There are some changes in it that you should look at before making the decision to upgrade. I don't have any complaints but did the upgrade shortly after acquiring my SX-56.

I'm hosting the site and the file. It's the exact file that I received directly from an AT&T rep that owned an SX56. I've installed it and it works great.

I reccomend not applying the update. I tried it twice. It crashed my machine both times, requiring the machine to be returned to Siemens-Canada to be re-flashed, with the original software. They were doing this for free initially, instead of charging $200.00 for the reflashing service, like if you wrecked the machine your self and needed to have the software re-loaded. My reccomendation is to use it as is. Mine was one of the early ones and it is still working fine. Garykkkk

You can use that upgrade. This gives you OS version PPC 2003 A.30.09 (The last Official release for the SX56. It will also upgrade the radio stack. One bad side effect of the official upgrade is it does not keep your sent SMS messages. If you don't do text messaging or care about retaining a sent item history you should be good.

There is a later version for the SX66 (Cingular) or the PPC 6600 (T-Mobile) They are mostly the same unit except SX66 does not disclose camera abilites and the 6600 does even though the photos of both models show a camera lens on the back.

If you want to try different things with your unit there is the ROM kitchen ( http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ ) where you can download even later and custom versions of the OS. This is only recommended for the advanced user though.

I was recently given a semi used SX56.
I need to get it upgraded to the latest software which I have, but I do not have the driver let alone the original software for the unit.

I am currently running windows 2000.

I need to unlock the unit as well, and I have that software as well, but I cannot connect to the unit because I do not have the driver for 2K. Any help would be appreciated.
