how to browse the net with 4.99 t-zones GPRS wap.tmobile.com [NEW WAY]

well they don't allow browsing on wap.tmobile.com anymore. but you can get around this.

Purchase the 4.99 t-zones package. you can log in online and upgrade this instantly.

**************************************
Go to: Start>Settings>Connections tab
Select: Connections
Select: Advance tab
Select: Select Networks button
Select New... button under the first dropdown

On the General tab
Name: T-Mobile WAP (or whatever you want to call it)

On the Modem tab
Select: New... button
Connection Name: WAP
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Select: Next button
Access Point Name: wap.voicestream.com
Select: Next button
Select: Finish button
******************************
  • NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE.
  • Open up proxy settings on this screen (if you don't have it, go back and create a new connection or modify your WORK connection)
  • Check "This network connects to the internet"
  • Check "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet"
  • Type in the box getmorespeed.tmobile.com
  • Click advanced
  • Click on HTTP
  • Change the port from 80 to 8080
  • Click ok, and get out of this.

You are good to go!

I have tried this over and over and edited every connection I have and nothing seems to work. Is this proxy a closed gate now? Thanks

i don't think so. i'm not having any problems today using this with internet explorer. Although i am having all kinds of problems connecting to gprs with net front.

What browser are you using and give me more details on what you have tried?

Well it seems that I was confused.

Apparently at some point in time I put in the address wap.voicestream.com as the proxy server with the port 8080. This actually works very well. I'm not sure but I have a hunch you could use any of the free proxies on the net. I will do some research and then report back here.

But you can't access any other ports, right? I use the RDP client on my MDA and doing this would hinder that, right?

i think you're right.

Anyway, i started having all sorts of problems just after this. A post i found over on forum.xda-developers.com talks about how a bunch of people lost connectivity last month. So i think they caught on. One guy said he figured out a way around it but didn't want to post it. So i'm waiting on his pm. Once i get that i'll report back here if it works.

Yeah...now if we can find a way to proxy all ports to an open server and then out (which only happens in protocols like MPLS), we have a way to beat the system.

Til then, for me it will be the blackberry plan. $10 less and I have all the same functions...no difference (except access to Hotspots is denied now).

ok, i've found out what to do to get tzones working again and updated the main page. It's slow as usual, (roughly 45kbits/s) but at least it works.

[edit] aparently i can't update the main page. OK, The ONLY difference, is that you change the getmorespeed.tmobile.com proxy to 216.155.165.50 with the same port of 8080.

Don't know why, and a google of that ip brings up some articles that i don't have time to read. try opening a command window and nslookup that ip and you'll see it's some funny named tmob dns server.

good find! it works flawlessly. quick question is this tmobile web (5.99) unlimited? will we get charged for overage in kb etc? is there a way for us to check if we get charged extra without calling in?

i followed the directions exactly like above and didnt have any problems... speed is the sae as the tmo total package which i just removed and got the 5.99... beats paying 30 bucks that for sure. wooot! hehe
