Unhappy PDA2k Going Haywire!

Hello,

I've been having trouble with my PDA2k which seems to be related to my battery strength. Quite frequently when the battery strength drops below 50%, it seems to soft reset almost every time I turn the power back on. It seems like it's going into the power saving shutdown mode, but way too early. After it soft resets it often has difficulty acquiring a signal, and I get errors sometimes when trying to make calls saying "operation failed." It seems to fluctuate between 1 or 2 bars and the "searching" dot below the signal icon in spots where I normally would have some signal. Also, the GPRS has trouble connecting even though the signal strength is showing 2 bars. The unit basically becomes unusable, which is very frustrating.

A little history:
I bought this device when it was first available here in December 2004 (from the awesome David Weiniger). It was pretty stable on the original ROM. I upgraded to the current ROM last year. At the end of November last year I was without a charger for a couple days. The main battery ran out of juice, but when I was able to charge it, my data was still there saved by the backup battery. The problems started after this. In January I decided to do a hard reset and re-install everything, but the problem returned shortly after.

Programs:

MS Voice Command (installed to Storage, if I hard reset again I'll go to Main)
Battery Pack Pro
Pocket Informant 2005
Avantgo
Lexionary 2.0 (Storage Card)
MS Reader 2.4.1
eWallet 4.1
VOShoppinglist
Betaplayer 4.21

I used the CallerID replacement fix for the GPRS problem with the new ROM.

ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio: 1.12.00
ExtROM: 1.40.176 WWE

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'd also like to thank everyone on this site as I've been lurking here since 2003 and making great use of the valuable info here.

i-mate PDA2K resets itself randomly

My 4 year old i-mate PDA2K behaves similarly:
  • it soft-resets itself when a call is received
  • it resets when it gets a new text message
  • it sometimes resets out of the blue

These resets happen while it's in the cradle, so I doubt this is a battery problem. Sometimes it hard resets (when not in the cradle). Perhaps the device is just old? Anyway, I bought a new battery on eBay for $8 and will see if that helps.
