I think it's a lot better than WM2003. I haven't had any hard crashes or anything like that. It feels like a production release. All the software I've thrown at it, WM5 compatible programs, work great. I can turn WiFi and BT on and off WITHOUT having to soft reset! That was a HUGE annoyance before! The phone application works faster IMO. The one thing I can't figure out is how to connect GPRS without having to go to Network Connections. In WM2003 all I had to do was touch the "G" icon and from the bubble it gave me an option to connect. I use GPRS mainly for email and thankfully retrieving email automatically connects to GRPS by default. Of course there is still the ongoing BT problem where it shuts off when the phone goes to sleep. I didn't use my BT headset often anyways because I thought it was extrememly unreliable under WM2003 compared with my Wife's Motorola V551. That and BT softreset issue drove me nuts. I am extremely happy with WM2005. I was thinking about selling my SX66 until I decided to give WM2005 a shot.
Are there any differences in the built in applications? I'm not thrilled with the calendar app - I wanna *see* my current tasks on Today, not just how many I have. The 5-way navigation also seems a bit under developed. What about 2005?
You know I'm not really sure. I've never use the built-in applications. I use Pocket Informant as my calendar, contacts, task program. I use Pocket Breeze as my today screen program. It works with PI to display all of my appointments and tasks like you had mentioned. 5 way nav has always been quirky because so many programs use it differently I think it get confused at times. Especially on the today screen.
I've also been running WM5 for a few weeks and am relatively happy with it. However, for me there is one main "show stopper" that will probably cause me to go back 2003SE: NetFront v3.2 doesn't work. IMHO, IE is still crap in WM5, so I've gotta have an add-on browser to get anything serious done (e.g., OWA).
Besides the NetFront problem, there are also a number of annoyances that are keeping me teetering:
1. WiFi and BT are flakey. WiFi sometimes shuts off while connected, BT comes on randomly, etc. I'm getting kind of sick of this. Not to mention the UI for these seems really dumbed down in WM5. I don't feel like I have control... WiFi finder tools like Pocket Winc don't seem to work anymore.
2. Remote display from MS doesn't work. I used to use this A LOT and I'm missing it.
3. Syncing via AS4.0 or 4.1 seems really slow compared with before. Also, the AS client on the mobile side seems to be always running and I can't get rid of it.
4. AvantGo doesn't seem to want to sync over USB (works fine over WiFi & GPRS).
5. I can't get FeederReader to work. Crashes on startup.
6. I can't get my Bluetooth keyboard to work. s/w installs, but won't startup.
7. I'm not sure I like how the reminders and other messages pop in from the bottom. Maybe this is configurable?
8. The battery meter in MagicButton doesn't work.
I could go on, but I think I'd be getting nitpicky. On the positive side:
1. Phone app is way better (faster, more functionality, better organization, etc.).
2. UI is slicker (i.e., more eye candy).
3. Can set the GPRS class (8 or 10).
4. BT static virtually gone (I'm using a Moto HS810).
5. ActiveSync over BT is finally easy to set up and get working!
6. Can have multiple AS partnerships.
Bottom line is I like it and want to stick with it, but I need a better browser, FeederReader, remote display, and my WiFi tools. I'll probably continue to experiment and follow what's happening here and on xda-developers. But if it wasn't such a hassle to go back to 2003SE, I probably already would have.
Hope the above helps some of you who are considering making the leap.
Paul

Is "Remote Display" the same thing as "Remote Desktop Connection" in XP? I would love to be able to connect to my home PC on my SX66, but my sync cradle is still on it's way from Hong Kong so I haven't touched this thing yet.
How easy is upgrading to WM2005? I have no experience with Pocket PC devices, but plenty with XP and OS technie stuff in general. I'm afraid I'm gonna toast my new beautiful SX66!

No, Remote Display just lets you see and control your PPC over the sync connection (serial, usb, etc.). What you're looking for is Terminal Services, which lets you connect to another machine's display from the PPC. I've used it over my home WiFi to my desktop. It's under Programs.

Pretty easy, as long as you follow the directions. If something doesn't seem right, work it out before going on.

I haven't had any problems with WiFi. I did notice that the bluetooth turns on when you soft reset, but once it's asleep it shuts off. That's the issue everyone is trying to figure out for bluetooth headsets. It doesn't come on randomly for me. I do miss is being able to connect GPRS by touching the connection icon at the top. There's no option to Connect GPRS anymore. Though with the programs I use that require it, they automatically connect and disconnect when finished.
Certain programs won't work for WM5 unless they are rewritten so you may have to find alternatives. The majority of programs I use are in active development and have WM5 compatible versions. The only program I use that's not is Marsware Weather Panel, but it works so I'm happy. I do miss Phone Alarm, but they are working on a WM5 version.
I did notice that the phone app is faster too. Being able to take down a handwritten note while on the phone is great. The note will even have who you were on the phone with and at what time.
Avantgo sync over USB doesn't work for me either.
I thought bluetooth ActiveSync was easy to set up also.
I have one major issue once I upgraded and I think it's an active sync 4.0 issue--I use ACT! 2005 and I can no longer sync between my database and my SX66--I have to get this fixed cuz I download patient schedules to my SX66 and now I cant sync without it clearing all of my calendar activities
Any thoughts??
My sync cradle finally came in the mail from Hong Kong and I can really start using this thing now.
I really want to upgrade to WM5, but the instructions are a little intimidating considering I have no prior PocketPC experience. Copying files all over the place, soft resets, several patches... if I wait a while, might someone come out with a way to upgrade that isn't so complicated? With all the patches built in or something?
anyone notice their SD slot not recognizing the card any longer? Before I upgraded, WM2003SE saw both my SD cards, now, my SX66 doesn't see it? Any thoughts? Do I need to reformat?
Fedora, you can see your appointments in the today screen. You have to configure it to do so. Play around with the today settings and it will work. It will not list the tasks though.
Heck with seeing them, MS voice command will tell you your appointments if you ask!
I know I can see appointments, I was talking about tasks. I got Pocket Informant, and I like it, but I want to put the tasks on the same tab as my calendar stuff, so aside from daily appointments and ****, my tasks are always visible on the main screen. How hard is that?

check out pocket breeze 5.0--It's calibrated to work with WM5 and you can set it up to do just what you are wanting--I can see both my tasks and my appointments if I wish on the same tab--I like it better than pocket informant personally--
Go under settings in Breeze and click on the pull down bar at the top to bring up calendar settings...then look at the bottom of the screen and click on "tasks"...click on the first menu item that says" Include tasks in calendar"...and check the box...you can choose to incluse all sorts of task items on the calendar ....Let me know if this is what you were wanting to do
