Angry Ahhh...It's really sucks!!!

Chris thank you so much for your time and review! I think you are right, it is just 2 options:
1. Someone at Cingular that is seeling that codes with the IMEI number....
2. There is a few people that is using some kind a software that generates de codes...

Unfortunelly, At this time I can't wait, so I will pay them to unlock my SX66...But I'm telling you guys....I will never give up!!

You don't think it's possible to just flash over top of Cingular's boot loader to replace the locked code with an unlocked version? It seems what we do here is so advanced compared to what Cingular's marketing folks would plan for that we'd be able to make the device do just about anything we wanted... Maybe I'm shooting too high...

That idea was floated around the HP 6315, but no one ever figured out how.

That's exacty what I was thinking!! I don't know how to do that, and also I don't have any ROM or CAB or stuff like that to overwrite my SX66...It seems that it is locked by software, so it might work...

We should compare the system files and also the Extended ROM files that came with my SX66 and another one that came Unlocked from Cingular....That way, we can figure out if there is any diferent file and try to replace some...Or maybe there is some crack to unlock it, just like people usually does with Windows XP...

The lock is at a lower level. When updating the phone with a new system ROM, new Radio ROM and new EXT ROM, all the accessible files are rewritten. If one of these files were indeed the file that locked the phone, then a simple flash upgrade would "unlock" and/or "lock" it. But that is not the case. I suspect that the boot loader itself (lowest layer of the phone software) contains a bit or two that get flipped to either lock or unlock the phone. The key would then be to extract the bootloaders to compare those. To date, I am not aware of anyone being able to update or extract the boot loader from a BA device.

Try it, worest case is that it won't work.

did they send instruction on how to use it? I would be curious to see that. Might make figuring this out easier.

Unlock Code

Chris,

They just sent me a number with 8 digits. Basically, after you insert your SIM into a locked SX66, a small screen will pop up asking you a network code, so that's it! Insert the code above and another small screen will pop up telling you that the unlock code was accept.

And..everything for 75 dollars!!....Amazing....That's the price of information.

I've been reading these posts for 3 months now and decided to join in on all the fun My new sx66 is on the way.....

One question though. Since all the new Sx66's coming out now are locked, does a locked phone affect performing cooked ROM updates?

Thanks cdaly1970 for the great website.

Thanks Christian! At least I won't need to worry about owning a locked phone unless I a) plan on going out of the country and want to use a diff sim card or b) switch phone companies in the future.

I have found one way to obtain an unlocked SX66. When I damaged my orginal SX66, I had it replaced by Cingular. The unit Cingular sent me was a reconditioned unit, I presume from someone that tried it for 30 days and returned it. It was obivous because the call counter had 3 hours or so on it. Initially I was pissed about this, then I realized that this might be the only way to get an unlocked one.

The USB driver is part of Microsoft ActiveSync. Google for "Activesync 3.8 download" and hit the first link, download it and install it and you're ready to roll.

Hmmm...

I just got a new SX66 from Cingular as of 6/02/05, when I try to "cook" the rom, the bootloader saided there was no phone connected. I checked my connection and everything was on properly, I even downloaded the Siemens 1.33.10 just to check the connection and it loaded fine, but when I tried the 1.33.50, it just kept saying there's no device connected. I'm a newb at this pda thing, am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I downloaded the roms and copied them into the same directory as the BAFlash tools, but when I run BaUpgrade, it sames that no ROMS can be found. I tried both copying them to that directory and unzipping them to that directory with the same error message. Thanks in advance for the help.

That's the exact same thing that's happening to me.

Well, I figured out what was going on. I was using an open source unzipping tool called IZArc, which is a great tool but apparently does have limitations. It seems that it wasn't actually extracting the file, so I downloaded a trial copy of WinZip, and extracted the file sucessufly. After unzipping the file properly into the install directory, I upgraded with the new rom and I must say I am please with the result. Other than the temporary double GPRS icon at the top, I have had no troubles with it. However, I've only been using since yesterday, so I can't say that I won't run into any. So far though, this is an amazing upgrade and now I can sync my Napster To Go files with it.

this has been bugging me for sometime...

my 66 will not update....

i always come to the country code error...

i have tried multiple upgrading tools......from cdaly1970's site and the ones from XDA-developers.... and i keep getting the same "country code error".....

when i used xda-developer's upgrade tool.... MaUpgradeUt_noID.ZIP....it will get to the bootloader, sit there for a bit, and then crap out with an error....

i bought the sx-66 from ebay....it is branded with the cingular logo...

not sure what the deal is...

any ideas?....i really want to update that sucker....

and.....does the 1.40 ROM have the camera software?....where can i get the 1.40 ROM?.....is the 1.40 ROM better than the 1.33.10 ROM?....which radio stack works the best?

thanks for your help....

ROCK!!!
