Just saw the patch myself and have already started the update, hope this works for the BT probs...........can we really have faith in this firmware patch?
Downloading it now. I'll post my experience when I have it installed. Too bad they didn't bother posting release notes or anything... Poor customer service if you ask me, but I guess we should be happy they've committed to providing some fixes of their own instead of making us borrow from PDA2K and iMate patches...
I downloaded and installed it. I haven't fully discovered all of the changes yet but I can say:
1. No windows media mobile 10 player.
2. For some reason my sx66 seems slower.
3. My wifi strength bar stills doesn't go past 65% (this might be an issue with my belkin wifi router ).
4. The battery bar indicator says 4 hours, it never did before.

And if not now, then when?

I have not installed this patch yet.
Also, my wifi strength bar doesn't seem to go past 65% either on my belkin router...or any other router I've connected to.
After running the update, did it put a .txt file on your PC somewhere which might contain the fixes included in the updated ROM?
If anyone finds this, please post!
Thanks
Findings at first glance:
- Bluetooth stack v.1.0.0 build 3500
- New Broadcom BT profiles (HQ Audio, etc.) NOT installed
- Jabra BT250 still makes popcorn.
- Performance seems the same to me... Subjective, of course.
There's no explanation on Siemens' web site as to what this firmware update does and what it solves. I feel my technical side is insulted. But since I'm an update freak I'm downloading it now
Edit: well, I did what it said. I reset, activesynched, and ran the self-executable update. Now it's stuck in "checking information on your device....please wait. Do not disconnect....." and the handheld says USB v2.06. Nothing is happening.
Looks like I'll hafta disconnect to make things happen.

Well, the fact that it updates the Bluetooth stack to Build 3500 was enough reason for me!
Thanks to the early adopters above for their assessments.
Well, my SX66 is now as dead as a door knob as a result of starting to install this update. It won't even hard reset. Removing the battery does nothing.
Time for a new unit.
Question: Those of you who updated successfuly, how long did the update installation take????????? It can't be 1/2 hour

Siemens site did say it could take up to 25 minutes for the update to complete...did you at least wait that long?
Have you tried connecting the SX66 to the USB cable, then re-running the updater? I don't know if they do this any more, but the older XDA's would pick up where they left off.
Word of advice for everyone else: Since updating will blow the brains out of your SX66 anyway, perform a hard reset BEFORE attempting it. It's the only way to be sure nothing you installed will interfere with the update. I did that first with mine and the install went perfectly and took less than 30 minutes. In case you're not aware of how to hard reset, just hold down the power button while you use the stylus to press the reset button in the hole on the bottom.
Are you sure you cannot even get into the Bootloader mode?
The combination is Power + Record + Reset.
Once you're in the Bootloader "USB v2.07" or whatever screen, run the update again and it will take over from there.
As a complete moron, I force-applied a CDMA image on my PDA2K GSM and couldn't boot past the splash screen. By going into the Bootloader, I was able to run the proper upgrade and voila, I'm back in again.
As long as the Bootloader is available and you've got a good USB (2.0?) connection, you should be able to recover even the worst of flash mishappenings.
I discharged the backup battery, and re-plugged the sucker back into the USB cradle, and ran the updater again.
Well, it worked and this time it was givng me screen progress, both on the handheld, and the lap top, not just a dumb blank screen with "USB v. 2.06" The ROM is updated and the bluetooth stack is the 3500 build.
I think the first time it tried to update it ran into some kind of conflict because I did not hard reset.
On the same note, Cingular didn't want to send me a replacement without charging my credit card another $650+tax
My other option was to wait for a shipping label, send this one back, and after they receive it they would then send me a replacement. I told them I had a better solution: just send me the label, and you can take this phone and shove it.
Since this is not the first or last time I told Cingular to shove it, I can change my mind and keep this one if it works well
I'm still upset that Cingular-Lockline do not cover this phone with insurance.

That happened to me too. I waited an hour and a half before I got too impatient last night. I didn't even notice that it said usb 2.06 on the screen until I had pulled it out of the cradle, it just looked like it was off. I rebooted my pc and then restarted the update program. It then worked fine. I thought my problem was a fluke so I didn't mention it here earlier.
The problem may have had something to do with the way the USB connects for this type of process. When I started the update I heard the USB connection sound and saw a few little "new hardware detected" alerts down in the task bar, but I didn't pay attention to what they said. If the connection wasn't established correctly it makes sense that it would just sit there "checking information on your device" forever. I pulled it out of the cradle and stuck it back in again so I don't know if that would be the problem. It worked for me after a pc reboot.
If I were to do it again I'd first do a hard reset as jonnywifi recomended and kill everything running on the pc, then do the upgrade. When it actually started working it took about 1/2 hour or so, the actual upgrade has a series of progress bars for like 3 or 4 "steps".

I have an SX66 from Cingular and would like to do the upgrade.
When you do the hard reset on the stock device, there are multiple setup routines that run and install Cingular specific applications. If I run the ROM upgrade, will it then go and run those setups again, or do I lose those applications?
