You won't lose any of the cingular stuff, only 3rd party apps you installed afterwards. But even those can be restored from your backup on the PC, with some exceptions, of course.

Definately do the hard reset before you run the update and then you should have no problems with the Siemens update. However after the update the Motorola HS801 headset still sounds terrible to those i call. The Bluetrek G2 headset still has static. I haven't tried any other headsets yet. Has anyone else noticed a difference compared to the unofficial patches to 3500C?

I don't see any difference between this update and the original ROM with the BlueTooth build 3500 added to it... Very disappointing.

So I've upgraded correctly and I have a generic SX66 once again, so here's the dumb question...

How do I get my data back onto the SX66 and start the syncing process again?

Siemens says not to use the Active Sync Backups or SD backups. What other kind of backups do they expect?.

Once the update completed I renamed my device what it once was, and active sync wants me to name the profile something else. How do I get the old data back on with a new profile?

I am a fairly technical person by trade, and can't imagine letting the average user loose with ROM upgrade instructions as vague as Siemens posted. No instructions on data/apps restore?

Siemens' instructions leave a lot to be desired. I don't understand the reason you can't restore from SD card. A backup is a backup.

Anyway, I usually back up to my desktop because it is faster, using Sprite.

Activesync will restore your contacts, email, tasks, calendar events, etc. There's not much choice in this matter. It wil sync as soon as you plug your SX66 in the USB cradle.

3rd party programs, if you backed them up, need to be restored using the same program you used to back them up. For example, Xbackup, or activesync back/restore, or Sprite.

Some programs need to be reinstalled.

I explain how to re-establish activesync in this FAQ (first Post)

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=42147

I explain why you probably donot want to do a backup restore after applying an official patch in this patch FAQ. Basically your restore may restore part of another patch. I agree after major patch like that I would rebuild rather than restore.

There really needs to be a way to restore your settings and profiles...I've spent over 2 hours now just re-setting up everything from BT pairings, security, AIM, keyboard preferences, font sizes, speed dial lists, menus, sounds, notifications, IE display preferences, POP mail accounts, key-mappings, passwords, network behavior, desktop, power saving settings, backlight, themes, etc. etc. etc. I had them exactly the way I wanted them, and I've have to painfully go through each and every program's settings and set them up AGAIN--that is twice in a month.

Of course, things like your call list disappeared after the hard reset, so no way of getting numbers from people who called you in the past 30 days (something I rely on heavily).

This is WAY too much to ask of people, even early adapters---just to apply a desperately needed fix for the BT so it will work.

I agree with mswlogo that the danger in restore would be whole or part patches getting re-installed and screwing up your PPC.

I also agree with Johnny WiFi that a hard reset is an absolute must before the update to get the firmware update to work without a glitch. Even with my SX66 being new and not having patches installed it screwed up royally on the first attemp of the firmware update. I was arranging for its return when other users advised me to tray it again.

As for mrsoyboy's problem, depending on how you backed up, does your program do selective restore? I imagine worst case would be to do the full restore, and if it causes problems then try the update again after a hard reset.

Even though I had the extendedROM on my SX66 for over 2 weeks, I upgraded last night, and here's what I've noticed:

1. Cannot run Bluetooth and WiFi simultaneously
2. Jabra 250 still sounds like crap
3. Noticed no performance implications
4. Does not have new radio stack (1.06.02) - not sure if I need this.

I am most up set about the inability to run Blutetooth and WiFi concurrently. Does anyone have advice?

Thanks,

Garfus

another wonderful side effect of the patch, i now frequently can't bring up the bluetooth manager and have to soft reset in order to get the thing to show up!

Odd Garfus, I noticed I had bluetooth enabled, then turned on WiFi and it worked without a hitch. Prior to the update I always had to disable one to enable the other. I think the wifi manager is quite buggy... Let's hope HTC is worknig on a major release to solve these and other problems.

I think Siemens needs to document this firmware update and say "these are the issues this update addresses......this is what you expect to see.....this is planned in another update,...................."

I had no patches installed on this SX66 prior to this forware update. If by "using bluettoth and WiFi simultaneously" you refer to using BT headsets, I can use bluetooth when WiFi is on. The quality of bluetooth is degrades as the signal strength drops. Crackling and popping are noticed more when WiFi is accessing info.

The radio version is still the same as before.

I'm with you there. It's generally standard engineering practice to provide release notes with any software update - how else does one know if he should install it? We're all just trying it and posting our findings - most of which are in comparison to other patches released by other vendors (ie., bt stack build 3500).

Sadly, Siemens is a third-party in the deal since HTC does the development and Siemens does the packaging and support. Siemens may not even know what's fixed in this release...

Actually I noticed that before the update. If several programs are running in the background, especially activesync, BT manager does not respond. In this case I stop the programs running in the background, and BT manager would immediately start.

If I keep hitting the BT icon repeatedly, as I usually do, I notice several sessions of BT are in the programs running in the background.

i have very poor reception in my area perhaps that explains why both the HS801 and my bluetrek g2 headsets are almost unbearable.

Also, how can you tell which programs are still running in the background so i can close unnecessary items?

It seems there should be an easier way to shut down programs after you're through with them. Too bad it isn't more like windows where you can easily see everything going on and stop them without going through 6 steps. I'm amazed sometimes to see how much is still open on my device.

I mapped the one of my buttons to the System Info assignment. It eliminates a few clicks for me.

I called siemens today and complained that my BT connection still had static, he said they have had no problems or complaints with their "siemens" BT headset available on their web site........although they only tested it with a pre-production sx-66. Cripes i was waiting for him to ask if i wanted fries or an apple pie with my order too!

I asked if any other issues were address with the patch other than the BT but he said that was it.......jeepers......i thought i heard 3X5 cards in the background. Maybe he used to work for Compaq previously.

or McDonalds? LOL

Well, things have quieted down here concerning the firmware update. Yesterday the XV6600 forum was buzzing loud, and some people ran into the same issue I ran into, that is their units froze during the first attempt.

I'm not really happy with the update. My BT headset was better before the update, and I'm now experiecing resets that I did not have before the update. I wonder if there's a way to remove the update to test this theory. I don't think a hard reset would. I'll try it anyway, unless one of you have any ideas.
