PDA2K T-Mobile GPRS & MMS Settings

From The Management Group
********************************************************
Got my PDA2K from Expansys USA. Here's something that I struggled for DAYS, soft reset, hard reset, trial and error and finally got it! ---- TRUTH is that I found it SURFING for a solution.

IT WORKS!
**************************************
Go to: Start>Settings>Connections tab
Select: Connections
Select: Advance tab
Select: Select Networks button
Select New... button under the first dropdown

On the General tab
Name: T-Mobile WAP (or whatever you want to call it)

On the Modem tab
Select: New... button
Connection Name: WAP
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Select: Next button
Access Point Name: wap.voicestream.com
Select: Next button
Select: Finish button

Be sure to reselect your previously working GRPS connects in both the dropdowns if they are changed to the new WAP ones. The new ones will only be used by your MMS application.

Select: OK and close the settings

Next we setup the MMS Application to use the new WAP connection we just created.

Select: Start>Messaging
Select: Tools menu at the bottom of the screen
Select: MMS Settings...

On the Preferences tab
Connect via: T-Mobile WAP (or whatever you called it in the previous setup)

On the Servers tab
Select: New button
Server Name: T-Mobile USA
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port Number: 9201
Server address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Size: 250k (you might set this smaller)
Select: OK
Select the T-Mobile USA entry and set is as default by pressing the Set As Default button
Select: OK

closingdeals,

are you sure you were able to get this to work with wap.voicestream.com APN? Because I could not get this to work on my SX66. Switched to 19.99 plan, so now I am using inernet2.voicestream.com APN.
Are on the 4.99 t-zones plan?

What is weird that I was able to tether through BT on my t610, having just 4.99 t-zones. But this would not work with a PDA phone for some reason.

Absolutely.

I got GPRS to work on internet2.voicestream.com but was unable to get MMS to work.

Following the instructions to the letter, I was able to MMS to work. And based on my research and also calling T-mobile, I found out that MMS works only on WAP.

In the ADVANCED tap, I've got it to connect to WAP first.

I am on the 19.99 unlimited all you can eat T-Mobile GPRS plan.

makes sense now... so it appears that with the 19.99 you get access to both wap and internet2 APNs.

Since your internet connection takes place over wap.voicestream.com, do you have access to all ports? Is your POP3/IMAP email working ok?

thanks

I've got wap and also internet2 set up and on the ADVANCED tab for connections, I set it to use WAP first and internet2 second.

SO far, and I've jsut tested it again, MMS works and all my 4 pop mail accounts work. Not sure about IMAP because I do not have any email using IMAP.

I've tried other combinations but without setting WAP as the primary setting, I wasn't able to get MMS to work at all.

In fact, I did a hard reset, then following the instructions and it works immediately. Thereafter, I then add internet2. There's a lot of technical stuffs that someone else here might be able to explain but as for me, this set process works for my PDA2k for MMS on T-Mobile.

For email, I use WebIS mail.

i-mate pda2k - getting email notification on Today screen with T-Mobile

Thanks for the settings - they work.
I have used the setting on the T-Mobile site to manually enter them as accounts on the PDA.
When I go to the email account and send/receive I get my emails.
I need the emails to display on the Today screen so I know they have arrived.

Any suggestions. This unit does not have "Triggers" which can work.

Great that it works for you!

If you are using the default email app provided by Microsoft, when there's any email, an alert does appear on your you Today's screen! You should check and verify your Today's option's to make sure that you got it set correctly.

However, if you are like me who uses a third party email application, then there will be problems in not getting alerts (on Today or even a bell to dong!). I use WebIS Mail which is GREAT because it allows for different pop and SMTP settings for an account. BUT...the trade off for now is that I am not alerted when an email comes in!

Anyone know of a good email application?

do you mean you can specify different servers for pop3 and smtp? I can do with with Pocket Outlook too. Email setup screen (4/4): Incoming and outgoing mail servers.

This is what I do for alert "triggers", of course this is not a true trigger like you can do with h6315, but it works: on t-mo site, account settings under Communications I setup access to my pop3 email account and then an alert to send me an SMS when a high priority email arrives. You can also set it to SMS you when any message arrives, but this would be too annoying.
The result - even if the device is off, it will wake up and show an SMS informing you that you got a new mail. Then just use pocket outlook or whatever app to pull your email and read it.

At the moment, I belive only h6315 with some special t-mo software can really support this push email and trigger a message to show up on your screen. I wish there was a way to make this work on pda2k/sx66.

I've got my emails set up to "check" mail every 60 minutes and when there is new mail it does show up on the today screen ... no sms required ... I even shut down the T-mobile site alerts as they could be billed since this phone doesn't use the "silent" triggers

Would it be correct to assume that you are using the default email client? pocket outlook? If so, yes, it does display alert on Today.

What I did was to set up two GPRS connections

* wap.voicestream.com
internet2.voicestream.com

In the CONNECTIONS/ADVANCE/SELECT NETWORK - I set the GPRS settting as the primary one and the WAP one as the secondary.

Of course it can be the other way round. I set the GPRS setting first because when I am in areas where there is no Wi-Fi, I prefer T-Mobile to try to connect to internet2.vociestream.com for two reasons!

The first being that it appears to me that its faster than WAP (I might be wrong). The internet2 option is available t o those with an unlimited plan.

If I need to send an MMS, I will manually click and select WAP connection. This suits me because I only send MMS once in like a blue moon. Besides MMS only works to another account that supports MMS.

For the frequent MMS users, I would suggest that you simply use WAP. It works for MMS and also will also get your emails.

If you happen to be trying to configure the GPRS and is having problems even if you know that you are doing everything correctly, I would suggest that you wait for a couple of hours or even a day or two before trying again..

Why? Because I've changed and changed my settings thinking that I got it wrong when often, it's the unstable T-Mobile GPRS that's the problem!

I am not technical enough but it's like there's only so many connections available in a given area!!

Good Luck

Does anyone know where I can buy a PDA 2k that comes with the option to buy extended warranty plus "exchange return" service (you return your device after receiving the new exchanged device). Like many of you out there, I cannot afford to be without my device for a long "turn around time" in the repair shop.

What is MMS? Text messaging is SMS I thought (which I use all the time). Is MMS like picture messaging etc? If so, I rarely use that so I'd probably be fine with using internet2 instead of wap?

I'm having trouble creating my account, I tried on the sidekick tmobile gave me, and it kept saying it couldn't and try again, so i decided to try to create the account on the internet, and couldn't connect to the tmobile account creation server. I'm thinking that's my problem( or theirs rather), so if you're having problems, it might be tmobile, not you. I'll try again later, and see if it works. When I try to use gprs on internet2 it says the answering modem hung up, when I try wap, it just never loads the page.
EDIT: T-Mobile screwed up their website, and it won't let you register your new account on the internet, not even their own techs can. I talked to 2 of them. I still can't get gprs to work on the sx66, but got it working on the sidekick2. I also found out I have a bad backup battery in the sx66, after 3 minutes, it says it's half power, by 12 minutes, it's discharged and wiped all memory.
Anyway, a couple questions: What are the working settings for these? They are under settings:connections:manage existing connections:proxy settings

Proxy settings? "this network connects to the internet"(y/n)
"This network uses a proxy server to connect ..."
"Proxy server: __________"

and under GPRS setting
Pap authentication, or chap?
EDIT 2:

Proxy settings:
This network connects to the internet (check)
This network uses a proxy (check)
Proxy address 216.165.155.50
advanced: http same address, port 8080
wap same address: default port.

GPRS
pap authentication.

Final Note:
I had to use the sidekick to create my account, I couldn't do it over the internet. Once the account was created, the above settings and a soft reset let me connect to a sign-up page that said I needed t-zones to connect @4.99/mo. I signed up for that and was able to browse the internet. That was last night, this morning I called and complained and had them take t-zones off, they did, that was hours ago, and my internet still works.

One more final note: T-mobile activated me automatically when the phone was shipped and didn't pro-rate the monthly fees while the sim and sidekick were being shipped for 6 days, at $60/mo I figure they owe me $12, they offered me 50 minutes good for 3 months. I figure 50 minutes is worth $2 if I use them, which at normal usage of 150min/mo is *really* going to happen. I'm going to call the public utilities commision and complain.

Another One More final note.
The sidekick data plan is a different plan than regular internet access, and the two are not interchangable. The day after the previous final note, my internet access quit working again. I called and talked to a third tech, and she told me I had to switch internet plans. That done, I can now browse the internet finally albiet *** S... L... O... W... L... Y... ***

Earthlink POP3 Email Account

I have an i-mate pda2k with service through T-mobile. I have used the directions to configure my device to connect to the internet. I can also send MMS messages. The only thing I can't do is send e-mails. I can recieve e-mails but I cannot send them.
I'm thinking this has something due to the fact that I don't have the 19.99 unlimited internet access currently on my t-mobile account. Have you all been accessing the internet without this 19.99 service. T-mobile says that I shouldn't be able to do this. Is that correct? Has anyone else experienced this. Also how do you configure your device to use both wap and internet2 APNs?
