connecting to private network using VPN from XDA II

hi folks,

This is kalyan. We are using XDA II mini from O2 company.

Now idea is to connect to private network using VPN. First of all i referred manual of device from O2 and mentioned that for connecting to private network (in page 89) use server phone number, username and password - i guess this is when we use modem connection.

In next paragraph on same manual mentioned that fill the section for each type of connection like VPN, modem, proxy server etc. But i need more info for using VPN.

Just before doing VPN activity, i tried connecting to ISP using GPRS and it worked well and now able to browse internet. Now problem is to connect to private network (Office network or corporate network).

Try 1:-
If i fill ISP settings of GPRS relevantly and VPN under mywork network with proper username and password (select either ipsec or PPTP) message error comes as "server username and password invalid please change settings and try again."

Note:- i checked with our administrator regarding username and password the person says those user and password are OK. Further he says to connect to VPN a device should have an entry for group id and password and thatz not there in O2 XDA II VPN connect screen.

Try 2:-
Then i tried with "under mywork settings" opened a modem with similar to that of in ISP section (selected GPRS-cellular line, provided accesspoint name of sevice provider) and as well filled VPN section. Even then just modem connection of GPRS connects well and VPN stuff does not connect at all.

Atleast in 'try 1' i got an error message and in 'try 2' it didn't even connect to VPN at all.
Now inorder to connect to corporate VPN using XDA II mini tell me the best way to connect and access internet thruough that.

Friends, please let me know if you need more details on this.

Thanks & Regards,
Kalyan

All windows software (including windows ce/mobile), don't support all features of vpn. For that you have to install a client on pc or pocket pc.

To connect a PC to VPN GW you have to options:

1)Use microsoft pre-installed software

Works well if your vpn GW is a microsoft or support L2TP over IPSEC

2) Use a software client from a Vendor ( Cisco, Juniper, Nortel..)

This version of clients are design to work with the VPN GW of Manufacter, this have all the IPSEC features....

To Connect a PockePC to a VPN GW you have also to options:

1)Use microsoft pre-installed software
see notes above (not so good)

2) Use a software client from a Vendor
the problem here is that thare no vendor sofware from gw vpn manufacters for pocketpc. So we use a software froma another vendor movian (ver 4.1) or anthavpn software.
This software supports al major features, like Xauth, Nat traversal etc...

So figure it out what type of VPN GW your company have, problably it will not a microsoft GW so use option 2 ( movian vpn).
Also, you will help from administrator to configure the pre-shared key in case you are using pre-shared key.

regards
