As a phone

I got the i-mate and think that its its great as a PDA, but as a phone, I find it pretty bad. Is there a solution to any of these problems I'm facing:

1) Is there an earier way to dial a contact without using the stylus? It gets very hard when you're driving or have just one hand free!

2) Is there a way to add custom fields to contacts?

Thanks
Abbas

For question (1), you can get Microsoft Voice Command or Fonix for voice activated dialing. Both these products seem to work well.

My top recommendation would be Fonix VoiceCentral, followed by MS Voice Command, and third would be Fonix VoiceDial if you just want dialing by voice and no other features. Also depending on your usage profile, there are other ways to manage this. IE, do you call back from voice mails, call people in your contacts, call from slips of paper, from e-mails, etc?

Use the "Contacts" button...

I feel your pain. I use the following method and it is a little bit better than the stylus.

-Click the Contacts button (upper left)
-Scroll through the contacts with the directional button (big one in center at bottom)
- Select the contact by clcicking the center button
- Select the number then click the big center button

It will initiate the call. This is a little awkward, but it can be done with one hand while driving. Not that I would ever do that.
