Unhappy WiFi problem with HTC P3300 (XDA Orbit)

I am having problems connecting my HTC P3300 to a D-link DI-614+ Access Point (with Firmware Version: 3.44 , 20 Jan 2006 ). I have another 3 b/g Wireless clients connected to this AP and working fine.

After a soft reboot of the Router, I can connect to it once, in every possible configuration. With or without WEP/WPA, 1,2 or 11 Mbit mode, DHCP or static IP and everything works very good.

But if I switch off the Wireless on the HTC and switch it back on, the connection is not established again. The same happens if I press the button on the right side that will close the WLAN and enter the HTC in stand-by mode and press it again to come back from stand-by mode.

Now, as I am trying to connect again my HTC it does not work, and I can see in the Settings/Wireless LAN/Advanced/ Status the following :

- for 2 seconds "Associated to network" (the SSID and BSSID of the AP is shown in the Main tab)
- then, for a fraction of a second "scanning network"
- after that i get the "not connected to network" message(SSID and BSSID are empty now)
- then I get the notification about other networks being found

If I dismiss the notifications the cycle does repeat from time to time (1 minute or so).

If I am reseting the HTC device and try connecting again, it does not work neither. In order to be able to connect I have to do a Reboot of the AP.

I did not check with other APs but I am going to. I suspect the problem to be on the AP side too, but I think that the Wi-Fi implementation on the HTC might have a bug also. I have checked this problem with all possible configurations of the AP and I do not think Encryption or IP assignment to be the problem. I am having no signal problems(2m away from the AP). I have checked with all Performance/Power options on the PocketPC, same result.

I would kindly appreciate any suggestions you might have in helping me making this odd configuration work.

Thanks,
Dan
