'page cannot be found' errors when using IE

Hi all,

I'm having problems when trying to connect to the internet over GPRS on my XDA exec. I'm on the vodafone network and the GPRS connection works absolutely fine, but whenever I enter a URL in Internet Explorer it says the page is 'locating' in the bottom left of the screen, but then comes up with an error stating "the page cannot be found. check the name and try again". I get this error no matter what URL I go to.

I can't see this as a connectivity problem as I only have one GPRS account (that authenticates fine), and I don't use WiFi.

Can anyone help?

Regs,
Andy

I've seen this happen if the connection setting has a proxy applied....because its trying to do WAP not HTML.

I typically uncheck the box for the proxy under settings / connections / work settings....

hope that helps.

I had the Proxy Setting set on without my knowledge and I think I now how.

I installed ActiveSync on my work laptop for the first time yesterday and tried to syn my schedule and contacts. That sis not work because of the Zone Alarm firewall settings that I did not want to change.

What has appeared to happen though was that the corporate Proxy server name made it into my MDA's internet settings AND the Proxy checkbox checked.

I spent an hour on the phone with T-Mobile tech support and their solution, restore it to factory settings. OH NO, all those registry hacks again??????

I found this post and fixed the issue in less time than it took to call the T-Mobile "help" line.

Thanks
Pinball2k.
PS - I did call T-Moble back and asked them to put the solution into their database so the next person may benefit. They did thank me and said they would. I hope so.
