I am a noobish in that way to do...I would like to buy one Jasjar and activate it on Bell mobility (Canada), they told me they will not allow me to activate it, but i am sure we can do it, so someone could explain me how to do it?
This is a triple no way. Bell Mobility uses CDMA. The Jasjar is designed for the competing GSM/WCDMA technology. 2100mhz WCDMA is completely incompatible with the variant or frequency of CDMA used by mobility.
The phone could crawl on Fido or Rogers, but you would not get the 3g speeds you want on it. See the related thread on using the Jasjar in the US.
Rogers' 3g is basically going to be using the same technology as Cingular's. I looked fairly carefully on imate's website and did not see any indication of a CDMA version of this phone.
The Wizard is out in CDMA, the Jasjar does not appear to be.
Alright, Bell is going to introduce WCDMA by the end of december or early 2006, that's why i am asking for it. Also i knew the Jasjar was able to go in GSM , maybe i could activate it on Fido/Rogers. I think there is a way to do it, what do you think?
WCDMA off the North American contintent is on the 2100mhz band.
In North America, it is normally on 1900mhz. I've heard people claim that some WCDMA 2100mhz phones that already have 1900mhz GSM can be easily modified to hit 1900mhz WCDMA. I just don't know.
You can use the phone with Rogers or Fido tomorrow. You'll probably need a firmware hack to make it work with NOrth American WCDMA, but it is certainly technically possible.
Most CDMA providers are going with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. I'm not sure of any convergence plans with WCDMA in the near future.
North American CDMA providers have been hesitant to embrace SIM card based solutions. They tend to like the closed device mentality. Even though HOng Kong and China uses a very similar version of CDMA that is controlled by a SIM Card, there has been no move in North America towards this.
I talked with a guy at Rogers and he told me i would be better have a SIM card working on their network to get the Jasjar to run on it, how can i be sure to get a compatible SIM card? Thanx for your explanations Stu...

Hi,
I've been using the jasjar with a Rogers sim card in Canada. However, I've not got the GPRS or any sort of internet (except via WIFI) to work.
Any luck? Can you point me in the right direction?
