One thing you can do is just turn off the bubble notification itself for txt messages. Depending on how you usually deal with incoming SMSs, that might give you some reduced functionality (you'd have to actually start up Messaging to read your new message), but sounds like what you're wanting, maybe.
Go into Settings, and on the Personal tab click Sounds and Notifications, click the Notifications tab, then in the Event listbox scroll down to Messaging: New text message and click it, then uncheck the checkbox beneath beside "Display message on screen". This is how I get it done on a Winmo v5 device, can anyone confirm this is how it is on 6.1 as well?
That option's kind of cryptically named, but with it unchecked, what will happen is when an SMS comes in (or the delivery SMS arrives), you'll hear the msg tone you have set, but you won't get the popup at all. If you're looking at your home screen, even, you'll just hear the msg tone and see the unread message indicator increment.
All of this is wrong if you're talking about Smartphone (non-touchscreen), but you're not, are you?
