Although the site has been going for quite a while, I'll introduce myself since this forum is for new folks.
I'm Mike Collins, and I operate this site. I got the idea to start pdaPhoneHome about a year ago when I bought my first pdaPhone... the T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition. I was an active user in a discussion group about this phone, and the idea for an FAQ was presented by the moderator. They were looking for someone to create and host and FAQ. So, I volunteered to do it. As I started working on it, I came to realize that it was a lot of work to do it in a manner that was easy to maintain, so I expanded it and used a forum as the content engine. After a while I had some help and expanded to include other pdaPhones. Then a few months ago, I had the opportunity to merge SmartphoneForums with the site. Since SmartphoneForums started before pdaPhoneHome, that makes our age much older than the current url would indicate. So that's the site history.
About me... I live in NY and have a wife and four kids. When I'm not here, I'm working in the computer industry, or at church, or helping out with the school, or at a soccer or basketball game, or camping, or fishing, or watching a movie, or swimming, or biking, or being cold in the winter because we get a lot of snow. I'm originally from Virginia and still love that state, but I've really grown to appreciate the beauty and diversity NY has to offer.
As for PDAs, I started life with an HP 200LX. Still think that is a great machine. I've had various Palm devices after the 200LX, then an iPAQ briefly, then Audiovox Maestro, then Pocket PC Phone Edition, Samsung i700 briefly, and now a Hitachi G1000.
I am Marc Abernathy. I am an administrator here at the site. I was originally a moderator with smartphoneforums.com. i was one of the original mods and one of the first to join that site. Now we are a part of this growing community of people and phones and i am very excited to be here. I have had the Kyo 6035 when it first appeared, and the I300 and I330 when they first appeared, so i know quite a lot a about the Palm/PDA Phones. I now have the Hitachi G1000 PPC on Sprint's Network and it is an awesome machine.
I'm usually here everyday (even when the boss is away ) so never feel you are alone.. someone is always here.
A little about me:
My background is not in the computer industry as some people. I am a camera operator (film and video). I am also a Steadicam Operator (for those who know anything about the film industry). I operate my own production company where i produce music for a wide variety of projects. I have just now moved to Atlanta from Washington DC.
If i can be of help in any way, board business or other business, don't hesitate to contact me at mabernat@pdaphonehome.com or via MSN Messenger, YIM, AIM,or ICQ.
Thanks for being a part of this diverse community!
Thanks, both of you, for maintaining the site. I've been browsing through it, and obviously, lots of people are getting a lot out of their contact with each other. I'm really itching to get a pda/phone combo, and don't mind spending time researching it and then money buying it. But I want to get what suits me best, and right now, I just don't see it. (If Verizon would offer the Motorola 200MPx with the right band capability I'd buy it in an instant....).
So this site may really be very helpful for me in my quest.....
Mike and Marc. I would like to thank you for being nice and very considerate in these forums. I've read a lot of forums and get real frustrated at all the flaming on forums. I know stupid people will be stupid people but you all have a very nice thing going on here. Keep up the good work.
Yep.. thanks iceninja... (no comments about a ninja thanking us for being nice... )
We do try to keep the site atmosphere on a professional level. I have also been to forums where the dicussions end up just being one big bashing session where the haves bash the have-nots. That is NOT what we are about here.
