I have a dilemma - how do I migrate my files from my 7135 over to a new 755p???
I have no PalmDesktop/Hotsync of my old phone - my PC was company owned & locked down.
Beside, BBVFS was Much More useful, as I could recover my phone wherever and whenever as long as I had the SD card - and one copy was always IN the phone.
So has anyone gone down this path before me?
Maybe not to the 755p, but to other Treo's?
There were many changes from POS4 to POS5, and I think the 7135 had some mod's to the contacts and the memo apps over Palm's v4 vanilla versions. So I would be Astounded if I could simply copy these two databases directly from my SD card backups (after moving them to a m-SD card, of course).
As for my calendar, I had used Datebk4. So I don't know if that will help, or hopelessly confuse the issue of migrating both the POS4 calendar AND Datebk4's database over.
You're gonna love this 755p! I had buyers remorse for about the first hour until I booted it up and saw the screen. There is a thread over at Brighthand (I think) that gives step-by-step for making the move to POS5. I have it bookmarked on my home PC. I will post the link here later today. You have to follow the steps EXACTLY!
DO NOT RESTORE YOUR BU FROM YOUR 7135 SD CARD TO YOUR 755P!!!!!!! You will transfer over prefs that are not compatible with the 755. You might want to sync your 7135 once or twice to your home (or a friend's) PC. You will have to install new Palm destop AFTER you sync the 7135. New desktop is not compatible with 7135 and vice versa.
755p does not have graffiti of any sort. I installed Jot (old habits...). I rarely use the stylus. 5-way works great.
DateBK4 is very old. You will have to ask the developer (Pimlico.com) if it is compatible with OS5. I use DateBK6 and it works very well EXCEPT the alarms don't always ring.
Above all....install each app that you want to migrate from 7135 one at a time. Open the app and make certain it works FULLY before you install the next app. 755 DOESN'T HAVE A RESET BUTTON. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE BATTERY TO DO A SOFT RESET. THIS LEADS TO A LOOSE BATTERY DOOR IF YOU HAVE TO RESET IT MANY TIMES. On the other hand, 755 is incredibly stable.
Good Luck. PM me if you need any specific help. I will post that link later today.

I knew about the various preferences (both saved and unsaved) being non-tranferable without problems.
In the end, I borrowed a WinXP machine to install PalmDesktop.
I managed to get one of my 7135's to boot and restored (WITHOUT the radio on) and get it Hotsynced.
After I removed the "backup" directory, a new hotsync with the new hardware translated and loaded the PIM apps databases just fine. Well, almost just fine. I think I will still have some fine tuning on the contacts to do, as some things did not seem to come through quite right. If I notice a pattern, I will try to post my findings, in hopes it will aid someone later.
Now I just have to figure out a ton of alternative apps for ones that did not make the transistion to POS5.
I used McPhling and EasyLaunch together, and while the former did get updated, that latter seemed to be abandoned as an unrunable hack under OS5.
Thanks for the Home key tip - I hadn't found that feature. Neat that Palm finally offers something like this. Though I do still prefer McPhling's features.
Yeah, I knew POS5 doesn't support previous OS's hacks.
However, McPhling5 is not a hack. And it does support the the 755p's keyboard fairly well - I used the custom button feature to find the green button, and it is working just fine. So is the "back" to the last app feature.
I do wish that McPhling supported first letter navigation of its list - that would be faster than using the 5-way.
I did find 2LaunchMe, which provides access to the old style command bar, which allow the use of cut, copy, and paste from just about anywhere, including registration boxes that don't provide any menu access.
Still need to figure out a non-hack replacement for EasyLaunch.
