Caution when using Opera 8.5 Beta! I loaded this on my Treo and it works very well. However, I made the mistake of letting it become my default browser. Now, everytime I try to access a weblink from another app such as NewsBreak or from an email, I get an immediate error message stating that the website cannot be opened because it is either not signed with a trusted certificate or on of it's components cannot be found.

Explorer and Opera still open up on their own just fine. I uninstalled Opera completely and still have the same issue. Looks like a hard reset soon. Otherwise, it does seem to work very well. Just use caution if you decide to make it your default browser.

1st page of thread lists Pocket Mechanic v1.6 as a tested app.

I can't find ver 1.6 anywhere.

The only one I can find is 1.59 -- anyone using this app?

I tried a freeware app called "SoftReset for Pocket PC 1.1" and it is working fine. The zip file from the original download has a help file and two cab files, one for 2002 and one for 2003. I copied the 2003 one over to my device. It only takes 9 kb memory and installs in your program folder when you run the cab file from your device. It's great to have an easier way to perform a "normal" soft reset (system not locked up) to free up memory. You can get it here.

You can get 1.6 at www.Pocketgear.com, however I loaded Pocket Mechanic 1.6 on my 700w, and the screens do not fit. I don't know why it is listed with those that do in 240x240, but it does not. I tried to do a system cleanup and you cannot get to the buttons to complete the action. So I don't recommend it. I also sent an e-mail to Anton Tomov Software (the authors) to tell them about this and ask when a WM 5.0 version would be out, but I have not heard back from them.

Do you, or does anyone else know of a WM 5.0 compatible program that I can defrag my SD card with?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Ilium Software. A few Windows Mobile 5.0 users have had trouble synchronizing using the current version of eWallet. To that end we've released a minor update:

After you've installed eWallet, download this file:

http://www.iliumsoft.com/download/wm...etPC-Setup.exe

and run it while your device is actively connected to your PC. One thing to watch for is that the first time you sync you will get a message on the Pocket PC asking you to authorize the syncstub.exe file. Choose YES when it asks. This will update the synchronization engine.

Thanks again for contacting us and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions,

Marc Tassin

pocket mechanic

WARNING !!

I installed pocket mechanic and did a system cleanup (wasnt easy because the program DOES NOT FIT 240 X 240).
might could have been more diligent re what was to be deleted but I just went wwith the defaullt temp files and cache but the bottom line is that after the completion my device WOULD NOT SYNC any longer. Active Sync would start but got stuck on connecting - nothing solved except hard reset. I had never had that problem a single time prior.

my eyes are heavy cause I had to hard reset and re install everything!!

Thanks for the warning. I was actually afraid to do anything once I saw the app didn't fit. In my opinion, if the app doesn't fit the screen, than no one QA'd it. Therefore, I don't want to take any chances and go further. I'd have too many occasions where I had to re-install after a hard-reset because I took risks. I actually un-installed it immediately after I saw that it didn't fit. I still have not heard from the company.

Also, this brings up a good point. I know that users of this board have the best intentions and are excited (most of us anyway) about the phone, and I know there are many of us that truely rely on the content of what is posted here. However, it would be appreciated if whoever states that something is compatible and works, really puts it through its paces before posting that it works. Based on both of our experiences with Pocket Mechanic it is proof to me that we all still need to test things before just believing what our eyes read.

This is not discussion thread so I hesitate posting this. However...

I agree that people need to test things for themselves. None of us develop these apps so we have no vested interest in getting anyone to use them We just test them to the best of our ability and based on our own use and do not follow any published QA process. Frankly, there is no way any of us can guarantee that our results will match anyone else's.

Wisbar didn't work for me so I posted that. As a result, some people are staying away from Wisbar because of my experience. However, I read elsewhere that it worked for someone else. There may have been a software conflict that caused Wisbar to fail on my device and Wisbar might be just fine.

Conversely, I don't know who posted that Pocket Mechanic worked but it might have worked for that person. If the developer claimed that it would work, than that is the person to call on the carpet -- not the person who had success with the code on their device.

Your point was well taken. As I said, I believe that everyone does have the best intentions. I guess I shouldn't take so much to heart. I work in software QA, in charge of Support for my company and deal with this daily. Your statements are absolutely correct, and again, I didn't mean to point fingers, just venting I guess.

Did it work: Yes or No
If No why:

Utility
Ver 1.60

Did not work:
1) not compatible 240 x 240

I posted that Doublebit Pocket TV browser works on my device and it does. I noted that there is a screen that doesn't permit me to put in the optional registration code. The work-around was provided on their forum.

Since the other screens appeared perfectly formatted, I didn't notice that the main screen's category filter and date picker was cut off until today. The is an easy workaround that most users will discover quickly. I may post something on their forum but I doubt they'll make any changes since the code is free and the workaround is so easy.

MemMaid by DinarSoft
Version 1.5
www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14279

After running a MemMaid clean-up Voice Command no longer worked as it was missing important files. MemMaid wiped these out, and after 3 hard resets and re-installing MemMaid just to make sure that was what was causing it I'm fed up. I hope I can find a cleaning application. It sounds like Pocket Mechanic had some similar issues for others as well.
