Verizon confirms Treo 700w name

MSmobiles has a news story about this and only one of the Treo sites has it listed on their news section but its a good sign.

MSmobiles put up a news article about it you can read it here. http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4628.html

If you click the link and in the personal section drop down to phones and click go. The picture below will show up. Clicking on details as of today doesn 't yield anything other than the standard 4 steps to ordering service and picking your phone. The Treo 700w is not in the selection yet.

This could confirm early 2006 or late 2005 but my guess is 2006.

Hopefully either Palm or Verizon will announce something at CES and it will be January.

True, but Vzw would just cripple it like they did on the I730. Its not as big of a need for me as I once thought it would be.

I truly don't think I can afford VZW's data plan so wifi is a must. But I'm not above slipping in a SD card when needed. I'll have to see. I may just get the i730.

Clicking on the details now gives you the following page. Looks like the "700w" naming is official now.

When a Mod (ppcmd), who may or may not have inside information, sells his current phone (HP 6515) in anticipation of getting a new one (700w). You can rest assured it will probably be soon. These Mod guys can't go more than a week without of pdaphone.

Your right, day one and already the widthdrawl is hitting me. Our corp rep says x-mas is not likely, and January looks better. Personally sales reps may not have the full scoop more than a few weeks out.

I can ride out until end of month (really kililng me here) just so I can get what I really want.

I will say this, I would not have sold my 6515 if I actually felt it would be much beyond January.

My boy Equus dropped this on me in another thread, I thought you'd like to know:
Quote:
Tell them that you are a friend of equus and that you are a part of the "escape plan investigative team" and if that fails to give you the desired results then tell them that you will take the new Treo 700W. By the way it will be released in the next three weeks time. It is a very stable device and I have been having a lot of fun with it. I think I like to have the "windows" in my "palm" if you know what I mean...........lol.........no comments accepted on this statement please.

So I was watching "Three Wishes" tonight...yeah yeah yeah.

Anyway, this one kid's wish was to be CEO of Microsoft for a day, and he got to meet Bill Gates. So, they gave him two things and keep in mind this was filmed a pretty long time ago(since the Xbox 360 wasn't even out yet). First they gave him an Xbox 360, and they also gave him the 700w.

They didn't say the name specifically, and it was only on the screen for about 10 seconds, but it was definitely a Treo and what the hell else would Microsoft have given him, a 650???

Just thought I would let you know that some 10 year old kid has it too. Whether or not they actually let him keep it is another question, but he was typing on it, so it was functional. I don't think they would have taken the time to CGI in the brightness of the screen shining on his face.

Not that this info helps at all, just thought it was funny.

I know I've already posted this question over at HoFo, but does anyone seriously think it's feasible for Verizon to release the 700w, XV6700, and the Moto Q at CES '06. That'd be like Verizon's own little Shock and Awe campaign. In each of the device's respective forums, there is "credible" information that leads to a potential CES '06 release.

In some ways, I think it would be great, but part of me still doesn't think it makes sense to release products that will, in some ways, compete with each other, but there are always ways around that(i.e. price points, camera vs cameraless due to company restrictions, feature sets, etc...)

Its possible that VzW may want to make a big splash, but given the fact the 6700 is a late arrival I would expect the Treo 700W is a yes and the Moto Q is also possible since it is WMSP and not WMPC like the Treo.

I'm also left kind of scratching my head at how VzW would handle releasing these 3 phones, plus the 5.0 upgrade to the i730, at the same time. My guess is that they will stagger it somewhat to give each one their moment in the spotlight. Since the 700w has been the only one getting all the advanced billing VzW might be thinking something along the lines of: "first things first" let's get our flagship product, the 700w, out the window and go from there. I have no idea if that is their mindset but it wouldn't make much sense to me for VzW to invest this much marketing into the 700w and then slip another phone in first.

Maybe they'll release them all at the same time and let the chips fall where they may. However a staggered schedule would make more sense so that each product wouldn't get lost in the smoke and haze of that Shock and Awe bombardment of products you had mentioned. Plus, I don't know if we could handle going from the normal dead calm of "same old, same old" to full guns ablaze.
