That means we can look towards June for Sprint with a January Verizon launch when the exclusive agreement with Verizon ends.
I just can't believe in the age of mobiTV, etc type of broadcasting and now EV-DO, Palm decides to lower the screen resolution rather than improve upon it. This makes me wonder if they even addressed the other little annoyances found in the 650. Trust me I love the Treo 650 but I'm still amazed how a mature sector like the smartphone is still dogged by the little mistakes or omissions.

Ouch........ouch........... it is an awesome converged device..........now if I can only convince the powers to be NOT to decapitate the features that makes us all have that "warm & fuzzy" feeling of radio on with Wi-Fi and surf.................ah well so much for my dreams.........anycase it will be well taken by the techies here........... screen resolution is much to be desired of, but hey we have to have something to *itch about if not then the members post numbers will be down and then us mods have to find a "real job"............

I have two wishes for the New year. First, I wish more manufacture web sites asked for the users opinions. Yes, I know they check these sites but it suggests they don't want to be bothered.
My second wish is even more important. I wish the engineers that develop and improve upon these devices were also users. If they were we would not be looking at a lower resolution screen. we would have a pageup/down feature, we would be able to add ring tones on the contact list rather than having to create a new speed dial in favorites. We could use our bluetooth headset to listen to mobiTV, or ptunes rather than having it just for the phone. Yes, and maybe we would have Wifi built in. There is so much about the smartphone I love but we have to keep on drilling these issues so the message gets out. Another way of course is to find a competitor that picks up the ball. I had the Samsung i500 and they dropped the ball, didn't listen to the users and this is why there has been a large defection to the Treo650. It can happen again.
You may not believe it but I am still a big supporter and booster for the Treo650. It is a great smartphone but please don't let it fall by the wayside.
In regards to the 240*240 screens and to those who say its a step backwards, have you actually used the hw6515 or seen it in person. I have owned one, used it and paid to upgrade the RAM to 128MB. The only reason I sold it was to get the Treo 700w which is also a 240*240 screen. Why? I feel its a fair alternative to meet my daily pdaphone needs.
Do I wish it had 480*480, sure, but the cost would go up, battery life would go down and we would complain about something else.
Bottom ilne is the screen is not crap and 320*320 is NOT supported by Windows Mobile OS so we can't have it.
If there are focus groups then they are not very good ones.
I have not used a 240*240 device. I'm sure the screen is very capable. My judgement is based on the fact that mobiTV on the Treo650 can at times be dark and not always the most enjoyable experience but always fun to use. The EV-DO speeds will help the jerky movement that occurs on occasion. I was hoping we would see new brighter and better screens. Yes, batteries are always an issue. I didn't realize Windows Mobile OS did not support 320*320. Thank you for that fact. It is nice to know there is at least a reason for the choice.

I understand your wish list. The bad news is that a lot of what you wish for isn't standardized yet. Bluetooth has been disappointing, to say the least, on all PDAphones.
As far as manufacturers listening, they do. It's a process and tends to be more evolutionary than revolutionary these days. The business market doesn't support the numbers of business-class users that the retail market can, and those decisions also factor into what can be manufactured. It's all about the money. The market doesn't allow a lot of risk on low-margin devices like PDAphones.
I agree with your assertion on Bluetooth but I question your last assumption regarding the market. Yes, smartphones are a small market compared to the overall phone market but Palm bet the farm on the Treo line believing it is the future. I think the general consensus is the bet is working. In other words they better think smarter or else they will lose what they accomplished.
Except for my Bluetooth rant all the other ideas while I think are good are trivial in terms of the overall design of the product. In fact the pageup/down and attaching ringtones directly on the contact list is fairly common. Did they have a technical issue that forced them to compromise the design for ringtones?
I also think with Microsoft licking their chops to get into the Palm market, Palm could have gotten them to agree to add support for the higher res screen. For Microsoft that probably would have been a trivial fix to at least keep the 320x320 screen if it meant improving the resolution degraded battery performance.
