700w Verizon tethering (again)

I realize there are other threads about this but none have been updated since 2006.

My Treo 700W has been sitting idle for some months and I dug it out of the drawer specifically to use it as a bluetooth modem. It has the latest (1.22) firmware, and my account has tethering enabled. The Treo can connect to the Internet using its internal web browser.

I know it's not strictly necessary but I downloaded and installed the latest VZAccess manager, just so I could get Verizon tech support to talk to me.

The short version is that after three days, Verizon tech support has been no help at all. I can connect with the Treo using either USB or Bluetooth, and the diagnostic routine in VZAccess manager recognizes it. I get 4 bars of signal on the Treo, but VZAccess manager doesn't see the signal indicator. If I try to connect I get a message that the remote host is unavailable. Pretty much the same thing happens if I try connecting directly (connect to...).

I'm open to all ideas as to where to go next. June Fabrics is a last resort.

Walt

If I circumvent VZAccess manager and connect directly,

Just buy PdaNet and you don't have to pay the rediculous 15 a month to tether. It also lets you tether via BT. ITs only 30 or 40 bucks I think for the program. The version 1.80 fixed alot of the complaints I had before (the disconnects).

Re:

I would also look at "USB MODEM" by Mobile Stream.

Just do a Google search for: TREO USB MODEM.

It's a lot cheaper and has less issues. At least in my opinion...

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I do have it working with Verizon now. There was a problem with the phone itself and Verizon replaced it. then, the key with bluetooth is to turn OFF the Modem Link.
pdaNet won't work for me since the other end of the connection is not a PC, but an N800 handheld. It is now working very nicely, choosing either a 802.11 b/g connection if one is available or using the Treo if not.

Thanks!
Walt
