I have a Treo 700Wx on the Verizon network. I am trying to use it as a dial-up modem on my new Dell XPS laptop. On Vista, I see the device under dial-up network options and when I click connect, it loads up, dials #777 but gives me an error message that my UN and PW are not accepted.

I am using the format for UN as <my 10 digit number>@vzw3g.com and PW as vzw.

I have re-entered the UN and PW, double and triple checked that cap lock not on, etc.

Does anyone have suggestions? Is this a BT stack issue with Vista? It all still works great on my XP machine.

There are several threads concerning this issue as it is a VZW network authentication issue. To make this error go away you need to add the BroadBand Access Connect feature to your data account @ 15/mo extra. This will allow both USB DUN and BlueTooth DUN laptop tethering to work.

I have tethered via BT to both Vista and XP machines using Widcom, Toshiba and Microsoft BT stacks with no problems but I do pay the tethering surcharge. If you don't, then I am surprised it works on XP without any hacks appliedto the phone.

There are ways to get around this extra charge by either modifying the registry or using 3rd party programs. Howeer, they are all most likely violations of your Terms Of Service but they seem to be widely used.
