A few months ago, I did something stupid, (but I didn't know any better at the time.) Before purchasing my Treo 700P, I tried to hotsync my Samsung i500 on another computer. Needless to say, when I later did a hotsync on my own computer, my i500 was totally messed up. To make a long story short, I eventually got it working properly again, pretty much as if nothing had ever happened. But I do have one recurring problem which I thought might resolve itself once I upgraded to the Treo 700P. But no such luck.
Here's the story: Once every few weeks, my Palm desktop calendar will suddenly lose all, (or practically all,) of the data. But I'm not sure what it is I do, if anything, to make this happen. Therefore, by the time I notice the data is missing, I have usually, already, done a hotsync, causing the PDA calendar to get wiped out as well. Fortunately, I back up the data on my desktop PC every night. So I'm always able to restore the calendar with only the most recent data missing. Any suggestions on what could be causing this to happen? What could be done to fix it? By the way, I assume the problem is with the Palm desktop calendar but only because it's where I first notice the problem. (I use the desktop calendar daily but often go several days without looking at the PDA calendar.) It IS possible that the data actually disappears from the PDA first. I would really appreciate any ideas on how to fix this. Thanks much!

Are you just losing the data with the phone just sitting there or do you lose it during a hotsync?
As I said in my post, I really don't know. What typically happens, is that I go to
look at my desktop calendar and the data is gone. When this happens, I really have no way of knowing EXACTLY when it happened. I probably should get into the habit of checking the calendar immediately BEFORE and immediately AFTER every hotsync, just to rule out "hotsync" as the trigger. Thaniks.
I have had issues of things doubling up in my calander after a hotsync once I made changes on my phone. Like you said, rule out hotsync as being the "trigger" first.
It just happened again today and here are the details. The data on my desktop calendar disappeared again, either shortly after, (or right after,) resetting my PC. But just before I reset the PC, I was doing "online banking" when the website became uncooperative and eventually "froze up." I was unable to get out of this mess without doing the reset. Shortly after rebooting, I noticed the data missing from the calendar. BTW, I'm quite certain that it's not "the reset," itself, that is causing the problem. I reset the computer quite often without this problem occurring.
Needless to say, if I had known the calendar was about to do the "data disappearing act," I would have paid closer attention to everything going on before it happened. Fortunately though, I noticed the "missing data" BEFORE doing a "hotsync" and was able to restore the data from my Treo. As I said in my first post, this had never happened until I synchronized my prior PDA phone, (a Samsung i500,) with another computer. This problem seems to occur once every month or so. Does this added information help? Any ideas yet on how to fix this? Thanks.

This may be too simple a solution, but I'd uninstall Palm Desktop and then reinstall it from scratch, hotsyncing to restore the data. If that didn't work, I'd try a hard reset and then a sync.
I have had the problem of my calendar data EXCEPT repeating events disappearing from my desktop. No other data (contacts, memos) seem to disappear. I am not doing anything unusual, just updating the desktop to synch to my Tungsten T.
However, I absolutely do not feel that these occurrences have to do with synching. They seem to happen when the desktop fails to close normally. I have never lost data in this manner due to synching.
Well, try paying closer attention to "before and after hotsync". If that doesn't help, try what that other person suggested and reinstall Palm Desktop, then Hard reset your phone (make sure you reinstall, RESTORE, then hard reset, or you'll REALLY loose everything!).
