Rather than start a new forum when not a lot of interest yet exists... lets use this thread for information and discussion about the next Palm based Treo. When activity starts to get going here, then we'll create a new forum and move it there.
I was in Radio Shack today looking for a T5 Torx Bit to try to repair my Treo 650 and was talking to the store manager about the 700P. She said that she was just looking over a internal memo that stated the 700P was due to come out May/June. She said there were no specs, just that the phone would be available. Just thought I would share what I was told.
Not sure why Palm doesnt have its own forum instead of individual products that way when a new product comes out you could post messages on the Palm generic Forum instead of looking for the product.
Since there are not enough users of 700w I will post my question here.
I have tried to follow all of the instructions carefully to activate "Voice Command" but when I follow those instructions and get to the step of selecting a button it gives you the option of the "side" button to activate "voice command" and when I click on the "ok" button, which it tells you to do, I get an error message saying I have to select another "command button" to activate this feature! What am I doing wrong?

Do you already have a button associated? If so, you will have to associate that button with something else first. WM won't let you have more than one button associated with the same application.
I really hope it hits sprint soon. I just downgraded from my 6700 back to the Treo 650. I was having too many problems with my device, it started to affect work. And not to sound like an ass or anything. But I've never been to satisfied with a palm based OS. But I am eagerly aniticipating the release of the 700p. Which will be windows based. Sweet..................
My Samsung I-500 is on life support. As a Sprint subscriber, my next phone is either going to be a Treo 650 or a Treo 700p. As near as I can tell from the Palm site, the 700p offers EV-DO, a bit more base memory, and updated built in applications. I do not need EV-DO and I have been living inside of a 16Mb I-500 so memory is not an issue. My question, then, is is there enough reason to buy a 700p instead of a 650?
Here is my summary of things that the 700p offers:
(1) EVDO -- I don't need it
(2) A better camera. I don't need a camera on my cell phone.
(3) Next generation of many of the built in applications. That might be nice.
(4) When you put the phone on vibrate, it vibrates to let you know you did that.
(5) The screen dims when you are on a call instead of turning off. If I can still use the PDA functions, then this actually might be worth something to me.
Thoughts? Can you use the Treo 650 PDA features when you are on a call or does the screen go off and stay off?
If you're going between the 650 or 700, I'd go 700 just because it's the newer model with corrected 650 issues and better chance of firmware upgrades. Just a thought. I still don't get it though. The 700p is a 4th generation phone with slightly improved 2nd generation technology. There's no reason why it shouldn't be a few millimeters thinner, have a recessed sd slot (c'mon..third time around), bluetooth a/v support, 2-3mp camera (not that I care about that), wifi support (at least through the sd slot), and probably a few other things that I can't think of. Nokia and Motorola have the right idea since the keyboard brick design seems to have staying power (unfortunately..haha).

Maybe we'll see those features in the upcoming Smartphones from Palm. The company has said to expect a couple of new models (aside from the 700p) by year's end.
Don't get your hopes up too high on a model offering MORE than the 700P this year.
Palm has indicated its intent to offer LOWER cost Treo this year. The 700P was JUST released - and based on the time it took for Palm to want to offer an upgrade from the 650, it looks very unlikely Palm will offer a "superior" product before the year's end. There are costs associated with launching a new product (like the 700P), even if that new one is heavily borrowing from its siblings, and those costs will need to be recouped and more before a savy management will launch its replacement.
IMO, of course. And it would be nice if I were wrong.
I think you are right. Palm has shown the Treo is a good seller with power users, I think they are trying to expand their market with more products for entry level folks.
Verizon and Sprint are selling the 700p. You also appear to be able to purchase it from Palm, but it was much cheaper for me through Verizon with a 2-year extension of the contract.
