Hello again!

Is not being able to feel the phone vibrate when it's in the case, a concern?

Did you think about the Elasticized front pocket to hold memory cards or sticks? It's nice they fixed the problem you mentioned I wonder if they'll fix the problem of not having access to all the buttons since that might be be a pretty easy thing for them to fix if they thought it's wanted, on the TREO, and I imagine, it would be wanted by most people if given the choice.

I almost always wear a belt.

I like the idea of a case that could, if needed, go into a pocket rather than be worn externally always, so I'm learning towards the belt loop option. I'm a little worried though since I've never worn anything on my belt all the time (either a clip on or belt loop) so I'm a little concerned how it feels, long term, packing leather, on my hip.

The pictures on the Nutshell site show a red piece of cloth sticking off from the case. Do you know what it is?

Has anyone gotten the case with the brand new Nutshell fix to see how it works? Also will Nutshell continue selling the old style case because maybe they have them left on their shelves? Would people have to specifically ask for a "new" style case?

Thanks again for the great insights!

Will

But tell me what you want in a case and I could suggest a good one.

Protection
Open screen and keypad
Use with or without a belt
Slim - close to hip, does not protrude
Concerned about moving the phone from and to a holster and possibly fumbling so I'd like a case that I don't have to remove the phone from. Or, if I do remove it, the phone will still be protected.
Looks good.
I thinka Nutshell with a skin case would work. But I am also looking at flip lid cases with belt clips. Some of the sideways holster cases look good too.

Again, I am very interested in your research since you're doing exactly what I am looking for. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Not feeling the phone vibrate is not a concern for me because I myself dont use the vibrate feature. The problem is not the Nutshell case however, all cases decrease sensitivity to vibrate but the Treo 600 and 650 are famous for having very weak vibraters.

I myself dont carry an extra card and I thought the case was big enough without adding an elastic pouch on it.

You have access to all the side buttons, its just that the customizable side button is half covered, but you can still get to it, small pain.

Wearing a case on the belt feels the same as wearing a case clipped to the pants.

That red piece of cloth is their logo tag.

I dont think they will sell the old cases, I checked it out it would be easy to take the case apart and make adjustments then sew it up, you dont need leather skills, so Im sure they will recycle the old ones and fix them if they have any. I may be green but as far as I know they start sewing your case when you order it. When you order a case you status first says pending, then order picked, then order in production, then order shipped.

Any case realy could go in the pocket rather than on the hip, that metal clip is nothing, I wear it against my bony hip with no belt and its comfortable.

I dont know of anyone with the new, fixed cases.

Feel free to ask away if you have any questions

Those 6 things are exactly what I was looking for. But if you want to remove the phone from a clip and not remove the phone from the case that means you would have to use a lock/release clip and all lock release clips I've seen protrude except for Krusells belt adapter which fits any case with a krusell multi adapt, but every case I've ever seen with a multiadapt has plastic over either the screen or keyboard or both and you said you also wanted to be able to use your case without a belt its no good.

With a flip lid case there is going to be even more case on top of that an inch of clip and an inch of treo to stick out.

So there are no low profile lock releases. There are many low profile cases in which you remove the phone from the case. There are a few low profile cases that you use the phone in the case such as Codi sport , which says their Treo 600 case will work for the 650. Heres a better picture . But then you have to unwedge the rigid clip from your hip every time you want to use it. The lowest profile lock release clip I have ever seen was the UniQase , but then your not realy protecting your phone since it faces out with no cover on the screen. And Its not 100% open access to the buttons. I bought one of those an I couldnt stan pushing the buttons through the silicon. I mailed it to the first person to send me 2 bucks in stamps.

I looked for 4 months for what your looking for and never found it. I ended up going with the basic needs (well made, low profile, easy to get phone in and out) and put aside the fear of an unprotected phone out of the case.

It looks like you have to accept a protuding case or put aside the fear of an unprotected phone out of the case or deal with slightly covered buttons or deal with an "in the case use case" that is hard to take on and off.

Thank so much for the informative answers. I have some more questions about the clip versus belt loop issue. You indicate the clip is firm (which it should be to be secure) and a little difficult to get on and off a belt because of its stiffness so, do you think it might scratch through or damage a leather belt? Also, if you did wear a leather belt most of the time (which I know you said you didn't) would you recommend getting the clip or would you get the belt loop? Just looking at the picture, it seems the belt loop version is almost the same overall thickness as the version with neither the belt loop nor the clip, whereas the clip with the ring thing is slightly thicker and maybe, less comfortable. It's too bad no local stores carry it so people who buy it must without trying it first, but it's great that you're able to explain more than what the pictures on their website shows, and give an unvarnished opinion! Thanks again,

Will

The Nutshell clip will absolutely damage the back side of a leather belt when taking the case on and off, its very rigid. It takes about 4 pounds of pressure to open the clip 3/4 of an inch to slip it on the belt. If your not sure what that feels like hang 1/3 of a gallon of milk on your finger. But people never open the clip with their finger to slip it on and off they pry it on and wiggle it off. Its possible the damage would be noticeable at the top and bottom of the belt from the front view.

If you never thought you would need to carry you phone when wearing only pocketless shorts and a t-shirt, sure the belt loop case would be great. I only know one person who has the belt loop case and they love it. If you get it and hate it your only out 20.00 (10.00 for the shipping to you and 10.00 for the shipping back).

Well count this as having heard: I chase noone, watch as my furniture is moved by others, and flip by basketball games on the tv if they suddenly appear, all with my feet up and my back down, yet during the day I have had my T600 fall out of the proclip perhaps 20 or 30 times? It's kind of dinged up here and there but still works fine but I'd count me lucky. About a month ago the clip itself separated from the belt mount, so now I have two parts neither of which works without the other. In other words, the proclip finally broke. None of my other holders have ever broken.

One reason the proclip is so unstable is if you clip the phone in and get anything else, and I mean anything else, into the clip between the clip and the phone (like a small piece of your shirt, say,) the phone is just waiting to pop out on the floor. I've had that happen at about a dozen airports. Now it doesn't happen at all because my two proclip pieces are sitting in a suitcase somewhere.

That is hilarious,,,,,,,

Not the part about your treo falling, just the post

But if it falls out because your shirt was caught in it you cant realy blame proclip for that. But that ended up being one of my gripes with those types of holsters is that you have to hold your shirt so far out of the way when putting the phone in the clip that you are flashing innocent bystanders

I always worried about the clip seperating from holster but never had any trouble.

I can send you this Seidio for free if you think it would suit you better.

Well I never got anything from Kansas (except for Bob Dole's Viagra ads, but I mean something tangible; maybe even that's not quite the right way to say it--what I mean is I never got anything in the mail) so I may well take you up on that just for the experience. It looks a lot like the Proclip. Is it any better? By the way, thanks very much for your kind offer.

Seidio
1) Stronger, very well made
2) Holds the phone close to the hip
3) Has a very solid racheting swivel
4) Holds the phone more securely
5) Has polished contact spots to prevent wear

1) Dosent have a lock release
2) Is harder to remove the phone (takes 2 fingers instead on 1 like the proclip)

I used it as my main holster untill I found the Nutshell case. You can PM me an address and I'll send it to you.

Seeing as how my phones last (technologically) an average 18 months or so, that leaves...let's see... 222 months that this case is going to be in that top drawer next to your socks.

Just curious Wil r u getting the clip-on or the belt-loop case?

This can be avoided by sliding the clip over the pants as well as the belt. Nutshell should do a better job with the rough edges on the backside of those metal clips.

Heres a link to that case if anyone is curious --->click

As for myself, I'm getting the belt loop case. And I left special instructions in the order that it arrive with the improvements they made to it as a result of James Paul Ritter! I bet you're really famous there. Did you get your new one?

Ya, I got it a few days ago. They ship them out fast. They did a great job. The inside is totally flat, safe for the screen

They are great people down under.

I just saw on the PalmOne website those leather holders--not nearly as most things discussed here, but really nice colors. Know anything about any of them?
