I like the nutshell but I do perfer horizontal. I'll keep monitoring this room.
Perhaps Seidio will develop a holster than will accept a skinned Treo. I know other manufacters make them but the one I've seen doesn't have a "standard" skin.. It has a hard piece of plastic over the display. I would buy that holster in a second if it didn't have that hard plastic (more importantly, the mounts for the plastic... which are still their after you remove the display cover)
Are you talking about the Speck skin tight. I did a review for that one back on page 9. I loved the fact that the skin covered the SD slot and ear peice and was thicker but the skin was not skin tight it was baggy (everone else had the same experiance) and the buttons, namely the home, menu, and 4 way directional on the d-pad were hard to push.
Man, if you dont have egrips with your Nutshell , then definitely get some. The dont add an ounce of resistance going in or out of the Nutshell and allow you to get a good grip on the phone right where you need it most.
New to the forums (and axiously awaiting my VZW 650)... got the accessory bundle ($49.99) when ordered the phone, but since it hasn't shipped yet, I'm going to cancel it tomorrow (the bundle that is, not my precious new toy).
Read through this entire thread tonight (much love goes out to JPR) because after plunking down a pretty penny for my Treo, I'm going to protect it as best I can (never had phone insurance, but will now), and like most people, I have my own tastes and preferences when it comes to cases. I'm still going to have to use the stylus on the screen (lots of third-party medical programs that require it), and want the keyboard to be uncovered for optimal use.
I'm thinking about getting the TC S650 skin case so that my Treo is always protected against the (gasp!) accidental - and hopefully never going to happen - drop, but I do like having it on my belt (always wear one) for easy access also. Anyone have any experience with the PalmOne OEM horizontal case (quality, will it hold a skinned Treo... my guess is no)?
Any input and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Treo is under a white lab coat most of the time at work, so the geek factor will only be apparent when I pull it out to use, and I do chase after my son, and drive back and forth to work a lot. Finally, who makes the best screen protectors (don't want scratches, but still want a clear view with great sensitivity)? I know I'm asking a lot, but I'm hoping someone will come through for me Thanks in advance...
Welcome, BUmmedic Ya I know about the stylus needs on the medical applications. Some of them are the most expensive but offer no 5-way support and have the tiniest things to tap.
I have used many types of screen protectors and non I have used decreased the screen sensitivity. With all of that stuff it is as expected the thicker offer more protection but arent as clear, some dont use adhesive and stay on via static cling, these are alittle clearer. I use a thick boxwave screen protector, it diminishes the clarity of the screen a bit but I have had the same one for 5 months without 1 identifiable stylus mark. Brando and boxwave make great protectors.
No that case wont hold a skinned treo.
How about a sidekick 2 case, they are the right shape and size and will hold a skinned treo. This one is $20 and offers the option of useing a belt loop or belt clip. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting
I like the look of this case and ended up ordering one today, along with a TreoCentral Skincase in charcoal. Once I get my Treo 650 (hopefully in less than 2 weeks), I'll use everything and, in the spirit of this thread, try to write up a comprehensive review. Thanks for all of your help
I already ordered the case and skin, so it's kind of late for this realization, but the Sidekick II is longer, wider, and a little thinner than the Treo 650 (5.12"x2.60"x0.87" versus 4.40"x2.30"x0.90"). Don't know how this is going to affect the fit, but my guess is that the Treo will be a little loose in the case, even skinned with the Treo skincase. Oh well, I'll see when I get it and if need be, sell the Sidekick II case (or give it away Later...
I have heard most say it was a perfect fit and a few say it was a little snug. I think it depends on the brand and style of case. My sidekick 2 case fits very well but its a vertical velcro case. These pics show a pretty good fit click me! click me! click me!

What do you call a Jamacan proctologist???

This guy wants to be a proctologist, and he wants to be a really good proctologist, so he decides to go down to the morgue after class and practice a little. Well, he uncovers the first guy and there is a cork in his butt! He thinks it's a little strange, so he pulls it and music starts playing!
"...On the road again, just can't wait to get on the road again..."
The guy really freaks out! He runs and gets the M.A. and drags the poor guy back to the table.
"Look!" he says, and pulls the cork out again "...On the road again..."
The M.A. is totally unimpressed...
"So what?" he says.
"Isn't that the most amazing thing you've ever seen?
"the guy asked,
"Are you kidding?" says the M.A.
"Any @sshole can sing country music!"

No worries, people always pick up on "bum medic"... never asked if I was a proctologist, though. People always just assume that I'm a bad EMT (which hits a little close to home, because I was a damn good medic).
Got my new Treo last week when my 7135 died. Read this thread for holster recommendations and ordered the new Seidio holster. Got it Monday night. Used it Tuesday until the clip broke. Specifically, the pin that goes through the clip spring and holds the clip onto teh holster bent and pulled out of one side of the clip.
Anyone else had this problem or did I just get a bum unit? I have asked Seido to repalce it, but no response yet. For the few hours I used it, I really liked it.

I'm no mdavis or jpr, but I just received my Nutshell for skinned treo and here are some thoughts.
I painstakingly researched for cases, committed not to be a multi-case Treo user. I read all the reviews (excellent work, jpr) and awaited my Verizon Treo. For the first few days, I carried it in my pocket naked. Quickly I realized that it was too precious to expose to the dangers of the outside world. I ordered the Boxwave ClearTouch and Silicone Skin. I did pretty well with the two, but I was missing the ability to carry it on my hip.
I couldn't believe that Nutshell came out with a case for a skinned Treo. I received in just around 7 days. When I first opened it my first thoughts were: very nice leather.... seems kind of big.... I tried putting my skinned Treo in and it was quite snug. I can't imagine that if I were in a quickdraw contest that I would fare very well. In fact, there are some issues with the silicone/leather interface. I have yet to receive my bluetooth headset, so when the phone rings, I have to take my phone out of the Nutshell. Well, it's difficult not to hit the volume button, or for any of the other buttons from being depressed as the phone comes out. What's on the screen once you actually see it is totally random depending upon what order the keys were pressed as you take it out. Conversely, if you try to put the phone back in without putting the phone in standby mode, bleep, bleep, bleep and again, random program chosen!
Does anyone else have any comments? I'm feeling a little sad about having spent so much on this case. I guess I'll try to return it.

Hi wahoo5 Which Seidio holster did you get? Just for review purposes I have tried to break the clip type and the cradle type and have found them to be the strongest holsters made.
In what way did you try contacting Seidio? Did you try to email David or another rep directly or did you submit to the general address? I have found that using the support link on their website is the best way.
I would be more helpful with links but I am on vacation and am posting from the Treo right now and I am a newbie when it comes to posting from the Treo.

Sorry I hadn't posted a review on that one yet. Since mdavis was interested in it I thought it would be nice if he commented on the case instead of me for a change but I believe he and his wife are presently away in Europe. I didn't think mdavis would actually like the silicon case in the Nutshell but the reason he dropped his Treo was because his fingers slipped off the phone while taking it out of a snug Nutshell so I figured that the roomier Nutshell with a naked Treo may be an option for him. Absolutely a silicon case in the Nutshell made for skinned Treos is not a usable option. I found it to be completely impossible. I told Nutshell about this and Ian said he would consult his partner, he said the Nutshell would stretch out after a bit. I don't think it would help a bit if it were to stretch. If the silicon skin is a must for you maybe one of the horizontal cases might work. As far as the Nutshell for skinned Treos goes I liked the effortless ease of use placing and removing the phone, without the silicon skin of course. But since I keep the velcro flap tucked out of the way most of the time the smaller Nutshell is best for that option. If you return the case I think you should ask to be reimbursed for the "to" as well as "from" shipping charges as I feel it is false advertising to market the Nutshell for skinned Treos.
Also I think the application "Treoguard" is a must for all treo owners to prevent accidental key presses. And I would always turn the screen off when putting the Treo in any case. If you are interested in it but can't find it I'll post a link to it when I get back to Kansas City.

I got the Swivel Locking Clip Holster for Treo 600 (new cradle type). That is how it is listed on Seidio's web site. They responded to my email yesterday and aske dofr pictures of the broken unit. I sent those off last night. They said they would replace the holster.
The way the clip is connected to the holster uses a pin that looks like it is easily bent. I had used the hoslser that came with my Kyocera 7135 for almost 2 years with no problems. That appears to be a much better made clip than the Seidio. I can only hope that the repalcement unit lasts longer.
