JPR, send it on! I hope it's a belt loop variety and not the clip, because, as I've posted before, I've had somewhat memorable occasions with clips detaching. The belt loop on the Nutshell is super--that case is stuck on my belt for life! I think you have my details if you want to send something my way. And, as an aside and completely off topic, I wouldn't worry about being a super geek with this case-fixation. The Times has an item this morning about PC keyboards they are selling to super-uber-geeks: they have no letters or inscriptions. If you can't touch type like a super-uber-geek, the keyboard isn't for you! I don't think we've gone that far with the cases, have we?

I have also had a few clips in the past wiggle lose but there is ZERO chance that could happen with this type of clip.

I read the average Treo owner tries out around 5 cases. So I guess I'm above average

I have 2 of the Covertec cases. TreoCentral sent me a 2nd one because we both thought the first one was defective. This is nice case with 2 major shortcomings. Although it is listed as a horizontal case it turns out the belt clip has one rivet holding it to the case, so it can spin. It feels like there are detents, but it still will spin quite easily. The other is the magnetic closure is very weak... It will only take a minor snag to rotate this case from horizontal to vertical or upside down and the clasp to let go.

Not worth the risk in my opinion.

OMG, that is unreal! A weak racheting swivel combined with a shallow type case and a weak magnetic clasp!

Holy cr@p Covertec just save us the time and mail us a brick so that we may simply smash the Treo ourselves

I'm thinking of getting this case:

Any thoughts JPR? Also, ever consider having your own product review web site?

Looks like a great case, well made and good lookin. My only hang-up with those types of cases is that they give me a feeling, similar to strapping my Treo to my hood ornament and driving into oncoming traffic

This is my last light semester for the next 3 years so not much time for product reviews for me.

This looks exactly like the vaja case I paid $100+ for (http://www1.vajacases.com/home_en.html).
Maybe it doesn't smell as nice as the vaja, and I ordered mine in PURPLE. It's a great case.

Thanks JPR,

I know the clip will be bulky. I just want to have the protection of a case that stays on.

Shea,

Sorry about that... . I guess we'll see if the cheaper case has the same quality (and even the nice smell ).

Do you have the horizontal Covertec case? In the pics one can't see how the slip on belt clip is attached to the case because it is stitched.

Yes, I have the horizontal case. The picture is quite deceptive. What you see in the picture is a metal plate that is stiched into the case. Totally seperate from that is the clip which is also covered and stitched. They hold the two together with one rivet. It they just added another rivet it would be perfect.

It is sturdy and well built case otherwise.

Yes! I just received it last night. I didn't know it swiveled. I assume the rivet may loosen up a bit over time and change position.

My initial comments on the black Covertec Horizontal case: Very well made, soft leather on the front, inside has a black faux suede-like lining, fairly spacious and not needing any stretching for the 650 to fit. Others have commented that eGrips will fit this case and I would guess they will (my next accessory). The magnetic clasp feels like the hold strength may not be enough, but it has a raised center post that goes inside of the hole in the strap and would provide more hold strength if the strap was tugged directly upward. The "weaker" magnet-hold may be a feature rather than a design flaw since the center post allows the magnet to be smaller and therefore lighter and less damaging to magnetic media and mechanical watches (another passion of mine).

Magnetic media & mechanical watches don't seem in step with PDAs and Smartphones! Yes, archaic terms such as "cassette tapes" and "floppy disks". Most recently made mechanical watches are not prone to magnetic fields, but vintage watches were. If a winding hairspring gets magnetized, it could throw off the time keeping by 10 minutes or more per day.

On the Covertec case ($19.99 from getyourtech.com): With eGrips and or a skin (it might fit), the chances of the 650 popping out of the case would be very slim even without a strap over the opening. More experimentation to come!

Just received a Covertec case. The clip looks exactly as it does on their website although it SWIVELS! I'm told it's a defect but it does look like it was designed that way. It was a pin through it.

I thought the clip was sewn on so it would be impossible to swivel. Does anyone else have a "swivel" Covertec? I was offered the chance to get a free replacement so I'm not upset at all. I am just curious.

I am going to try the Treo Central P6 instead. I also thought the Covertec was just a bit too large. It is however VERY well constructed!

Can anyone recommend a pouch type case the protects well but it as small as a case could be? I have a Seido holster which I love but it scratched my Treo a little and I don't like scratches on my new toy!

Many have stated so far in this thread that to their surprise the clip swivels.

Well I recomend the Nutshell pouch.
