Right! I forgot about that one (hard to keep them straight). The clip seems to have a smaller profile that the Sydney Harbour Pouch, but the top strap still is covering the ringer switch, no? Given the price, it may be worth a try even with the switch covered.

It looks like your going to have to pic the lesser of the evils.

1) Take the belt off when removing the case.
2) Settle for vertical only.
or
3) Flip open the magnet flap to turn the ringer on/off.

I think I met my match, your just as picky as me

Maybe even pickier! Thanks for your suggestions. I may go with option 3, assuming I can use some eGrips on the side for out of case use. I emailed the seller the eGrips question and will post his answer here.

Before we review the Nutshell for skinned Treos next week lets take a look at a few skins. I tried to find out from quite a few people why the Boxwave silicon skin for the Treo 650 runs $30.00 and the Treocentral silicon skin runs only $20.00. The owners of the boxwave say they are better quality and the Treocentral skin owners say dunno

So,

1) Both look as if they were cut from the mold with fingernail clippers.

2) They feel exactly the same.

3) They look exactly the same except the Boxwave has a few additional cutouts in the back that serve no porpose.

4) They fit exactly the same.

5) They both bounce right back into shape when stretched.

6) All the buttons are easy to use with both of them.

7) The skins are the same thickness.

The only thing I can guess is that Boxwave skin case owners claim that the Boxwave skin is better because they want to justify the extra $10.00 they wasted for no reason

I gotta tell ya I love the grippy feeling of the silicon skin. The button use is not hindered a bit and they look pretty good.

The arrows below point to the sloppy cuts on the cases. Almost all the edges are sloppy but the ones with the arrows are really sloppy.

I had the same question - Boxwave vs Treocentral Skin. I opted for the Treocentral. I'm very happy with the quality. My cutouts look pretty good. Any slight inperfections don't really seem noticeable when the Treo is in the skin. The only alteration I made was to enlarge the cutout around the stylus. I like to use the stylus & I couldn't catch my fingernail on the stylus without doing a little surgery. I found it easier to use scissors than to try to make a bevel cut with an exacto.
Anybody know what the deal is with the lanyard? I would be afraid to use it. I'm not sure the skin is strong enough to support the weight of the Treo. I think the nylon "string" used to loop around a portion of the skin would tear through when subjected to the weight of a swinging Treo. Dumb idea & a waste of money.

Covertec Pouch Case

Hi JPR (and everyone else),

I just got my Verizon T-650 yesterday to replace a Motorola V60P. Anyway, the Nutshell looks almost perfect, but I too like the horizontal carry option preferrably with a clip instead of a loop. I know you are not a horizontal kind of guy, but do you have any anecdotes or does anyone have any direct experience with Covertec's pouch?

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

Do a search for Covertec in these forums and also the forums at mytreo.net and treocentral.com .. I've seen several threads on the topic. People seem to like it.

It is nice to see that Treocentral is not biased towards the product they sell. Like me they feel the Speck skin tight case and holster are the worst they have seen.

Yup, yup like dthunt said "I know you are not a horizontal kind of guy ".

I realy wanted to comment on the "horzontal" part but this thread has been pretty "G" rated so far,,,,,,ahemmm,,,,,other than the shock I got when I googled "leather stretcher"

Dave.
I would hate to have to flip the magnetic clasp out of the way and then close it everytime I place or removed the phone from the case. The great thing about the Nutshell is the closer is there if you need it and you can tuck it out of the way if you dont.

Why not see whether the folks at Nutshell will custom make you a horizontal case with a clip. They seem very responsive. BTW my Nutshell case arrived in only 6 days.

I am expecting a Covertec Horizontal case to be arriving soon. I plan on using eGrips with this case. Now all I need is the damn phone to be shipped by Palm!

The day I expected my T650 I left the front door open all day with a sign on it saying "knock loudly, if no answer knock louder". It was due by 10am, by 5pm I had called FedEx 3 times and I think they directed the driver to pull over search his truck, find the packaged and drive it strait to that (JPR) nuts house

So back to cases. I really like the Nutshell more than any case I have ever had for any phone. But I had my first accident the other day when I pulled it out against the rather high friction of the case (one of the reasons I like it because it is so secure), wasn't able to keep a grip on it, and it went flying to the floor. The battery case came off, and the battery flew out. Although no damage was done (I similarly dropped my 600 on various floors and objects over the last couple of years I couldn't even count the times), I value this phone too much to risk that again. I suppose the answer is to put a skin on it. But that rasises the problem that I couldn't put a skin on it and use the Nutshell. I really don't want ot buy another Nutshell! So I guess I'm stuck, right.

On the other hand, if I decide to go that way, what skin will fit in what Nutshell (I suppose they are making a slightly roomier one to allow for skinned 650s, right?)
