Dialup Speed

I activated my VZW 600 without a data plan and through the help of this forum I'm able to dial into my SBC/yahoo account. I've got my phone set to Virtual Modem with speed >115 and I'm dialing into a 56k number. When I do a speed test with dslreport I get 11 kbits/sec. Is the the same as 11k? Should it be, or can I make it faster (without a data plan)?

I think it's slower because you're connecting to an ISP outside of Verizon's network.

How does this slow it down? Is it Verizon's network that is the bottleneck? Is it any different than if I used my SBC landline to dial into the same number?

I believe the fastest the dialup speed is over cellular is 14.4k. So, it is different than dialing into your ISP over a SBC landline.

I tested the dial-up with several providers (speakeasy, bellsouth, etc.) and never got more than 11 kbits/sec. Then I configured the QNC (user: qnc, password: qnc, number: #777) and I get from 50 to 110 kbits/sec.

I dont have a data plan either so they should not charge me extra for that and it should only use my available minutes, but I'm still waiting for an invoice since I started using it to make sure...

Sounds like you might have the pay as you go data plan because I made sure no data plan was activated for me and I can not even access the qnc connection. Apparently because of the lack of data plan I also can't e-mail pics.

BTW, I always get the exact speed of 11 kbits/sec. No variation at all.
