NO Treo does. They don't have analog radios. Not even the Treo 650.
That's why you don't have an "Analog" item on the menu.
"Cellular CDMA" means Digital 800MHz service
"PCS CDMA" means Digital 1900MHz service
If your phone is working-- it MUST be working as a digital phone.
Therefore, what is going on here is they have a list of "approved" digital phones in their database-- and no way to put in a digital plan unless you pick an "approved" phone.
SO, you have a choice, if you want a digital plan-- LIE about what kind of phone you have (tell 'em it's a Treo 600 if they support it) or stick with the analog plans. Like I said, it's their order entry/phone enabling software that's broken, not the software on the towers.
Feh. Database programmers.

Ok, APG, what is the "AMPS" tab for in the service programming of the phone ? (See my previous post with the Bell settings)
Quote:
from me!
(these next AMPS settings seem to disappear when you read the data back from the phone, oh well, no harm in programming them anyway)
AMPS registration: yes
AMPS 1st paging channel: 334
AMPS Home SID: 16420
A.M.P.S.
Quote:
from some glossary:
Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) is a first generation analogue cellular telephone system that originated in the USA in the 1980s.
I will try that "lie" about Treo 600 tomorrow and see if that does anything. Thanks for your reply APG!
When I think about it though, I did say that the AMPS settings written to the phone are not read back from the phone, that would certainly support AGP's claim. The SURF interface is probably standard and shows the "AMPS" tab even though the radio is not present. mmmh.
so are you up and running with the treo 300 on bell? how do you like it? my phone should be here on monday and hopefully the serial cable will arrive a few days there after.
I would like to ask for some advice. I am a newcomer to Canada, so I am really not into any mobile networks here, but I am trying to figure out everything.
Actualy I got my hands 2 days ago on Palm Treo 600 CDMA from Bell mobility. The problem is, that this PDA is stolen. As I understood, someone who owned that phone had some minor problems with it (speakerphone sometimes is not working well), so the Palm was returned to Bell, they said that it is not repairable and shiped the phone somewhere else. (I got this information from some Bell paperwork, which I got with te PDA.) And at this point this phone was stolen.
I got it for very cheap price, so even if I can't use it as a phone, it is still worth to use it as a mp3 player and organiser. (Yesterday I purchased an USB docking station and charger for it at Bell store)
But I would like to get most of it, so is there any way to get this PDA registered on my own name on Bell mobility or another CDMA network here? I realy would like to use to write/read e-mails and/or receiving voice calls.
And another thing - I am planning to return to my home country in Europe, so if there is any way to exchange (or selling) my palm treo cdma with another Palm Treo GSM, which works on 900/1800 (not 800/1900) then I am open to any offerings.
So I am interested in any opinions how to get the most of my Bell Palm Treo 600.
Another thing I forgot to add - the OS in my Treo is in French language. Is there any way to change it to english? I knew only 2 words in French 2 days ago, so it is a little bit confusing, to use it this way As a computer geek I have got used to it, but anyway I am still looking for some help in changing language.
I know that there is an aplication on my treo memory called Language Picker, but I dont even know how to start it. (even after I hard reset my Treo it doesn't offers to select language). Any ideas before I will speak French freely just because of my PDA?
hi denis, being french, I would say that knowing Français is a good asset, both in Canada and in Europe Maybe you shouldn't work to hard to resolve that particular problem. hehe.
Bell/Telus share the only CDMA network in eastern Canada. I think you wouldn't have any problems calling bell and saying you have this treo 600 cdma and would like to open an account for it. Unlike our Sprint Treo 300's, their system won't have any problems with your phone. I don't know if they blacklist certain ESN's when phones go missing... I wouldn't think so. Give them a call and explain it to the marketing rep (they open accounts), he'll tell you. As for the language and GSM... you are not in the right threads for those subject. Go to the 600 section. I know nothing of the 600 but I know usually on older palms (<2002), the language is not configureable.
Alright there is no doubt I'm active as digital now. APG was absolutely right. Sorry APG, I wasn't doubting you, it's just that, as a scientist, hypotheses brought to me must be tested in experiments to prove beyond any doubt they are correct.
Ok, so I was traveling this w-e and the signal was flaky on the road. As I understand it, outside the cities, cellular towers don't belong to Bell. But Bell and Telus have agreements. So in order to have a fully functionnal phone, the Preferred-Roaming-List (PRL) must be correctly set for the phone to attach to the next appropriate tower when a Bell tower can't be reached. In the settings I exposed in a past post, I mentionned only entering the first Home SID and NID, this works fine for city centers I believe, now we need to figure out the next few ones on the list to correctly complete the service.
I would say this is particularly important for those southern Ontarians who live close to the US borders where other tower signals are reacheable and the US Sprint phone will likely prefer as soon as a Bell signal is week.
NOTE: Again I want to say that I am not an expert on the subject, I'm just figuring this stuff out as best I can as a go along.
So my current Treo 300 on Bell Mobility status:
- Analog billing plan.
- Working service in digital mode (of course, no analog in the treos)
- Caller ID working
- Voicemail works
- The "new message" signal doesn't show up on the Treo. (Voicemail is apparently attached to an *analog* phone, so it's just disabled)
- PRL is not configured correctly. Must complete the list to be able to travel within Canada correctly.
I *know* the Treos don't have analog because I know some of the people who designed them.
It was a Handspring executive decision, from what I heard.
Ennyhow, what you need to do to get a new PRL is dial *288 and ask it to "update your roaming information". That should load a local PRL into your phone, presuming the MSL is set to what your carrier *thinks* it is. (this is all zeros for Verizon, typically.)

Hi guys I have bought a Treo 300 from e-bay and it came with a code to unlock it. I live in Tennessee and have to use Verizon because it is the only service that works at my home. Before I bought it (about 6 weeks ago) I called Verizon main Tech line and the Tech I spoke with checked and told me if it was unlocked it would work. Now I have it and the unlock code seems to unlock the phone my local store took one look at it(about 5 sec) and said it won't work then tried to sell me a Treo 600. Can anyone here help me out with this ??? What codes do I need to enter to change the network to Verizon? How do I set the phone to my number? I havn't went to the web and changed anything from my old phone to it(wouldn't work that way I'm sure). I really like this phone and want to keep it. If anyone out there can help me I sure would thank you. If there is someplace anyone can guide me to please do that. I am posting my e-mail address if the instruction are long or someone wants to contact me . Thanks Richard richard@bushline.com

Repeat after me.
<b>Don't ask the store ANYTHING.</b>
<b>Don't rely on ANY technical advice the store gives you.</b>
<b>The information here is MUCH more reliable than what any store can tell you.</b>
That said, call Verizon and tell them you want to switch to a new phone. Tell them you already own the phone and you need to have them go through activating it.
All they have to do is set about 3 parameters in the phone, and get your ESN in the database. They can do most of this automatically with *288 once the ESN is attached to your plan.
BTW, you shouldn't post your complete email in a forum like this, spammers can pick it up. Obfuscate it like I did in your reply or in some other way.

I am now in Chicoutimi, 2 hours north of Québec city, and my phone stopped working when I left Québec. Here in Chicoutimi there is 1x and digital SCP coverage but my phone prints "No service". I found a file on this forum for bell PRL (bellm-30330.zip), using QPST, I wrote it to my phone, doesn't work.
I tried setting my first home NID/SID to 0-65535 but that doesn't change anything. Shouldn't that mean wildcard/wildcard and the phone should just hook up to the strongest tower?
Anyway, right now I'm out of ideas, been spending way too much time on this on many different web sites. Is there anyone with a true Bell Mobility treo 600 that can use QPST, read their phone service programming to a file, then send it to me?
Ok
How do I get to the phone settings to change the phone number in the Treo 300? When I used the unl;ock code I was in the network part on the pda and it said unlocked. If I could get to the place to change the phone number to mine then call Verizon from a phone will this activate the phone? I live in a area where Verizon is the only signal that you can pick up so if I could get to the phone settings to change the number and then get verizon to activate it would this work??? I still don't know how to get to the phone settings. If they turn on the esn in their data base will *228 reprogram th ephone? Lot of questions I know but I don't want to mess this up. Thankls for the reply. Richard
You are not in the right place, read the previous posts correctly, the MSL or "unlock code" has to be dialed, using the phone keypad interface, you dial ##[your MSL here], then hit the send or dial key.
well my treo 300 has arrived....but i am still waiting on the serial cable, and i will be travelling to Montreal next week for business so I won't be able to play around with the phone to set it up for at least another week.
Vecchio, how are things going with for the roaming settings?
Ok I don't mean to be a bother here but I am trying to get my Treo 300 going. I missed the part about entering to code in by using the ##and then the code like a phone number. That took me to a screen that I was able to change my phone number. I tried the Verizon web site and it would not take the ESN number. Of course th eVerizon people are no help they just say it won't work. Will I have to get a serial cable and some kind of program to change the MSL code to get it to work on Verizon? The Verizon people say the tower codes can't be changed but I read here that they can. If someone would list some steps that I can use to get this working I would be greatfull. Thanks a lot for the help so far. If I need a program a hint on where to find it would be nice. Thanks again Richard
BTW My wife is on me hard about this I really could use the help
i have my serial cable here and i am having problems using the bitpim software. i have enabled the passthrough mode, serial cable is on port 1, it does work. i am using bitpim 7.28.
now i selected the correct phone to use in the settings, lg-vx7000, and then when i go to get the phone data, i get the following error. also, i haven't installed the hotsync software yet so i haven't had to shut that off as per instructions..

does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks!!
Make sure in the settings you select com 1 and also you want to hit view then filesystem and then go right to that column and click the plus tab. Dont hit get phone data as that will not work.
excellent, that worked, the phone is now unlocked!!
Now, i am having a hard time with bell so i have decided to bite the bullet and buy a bell treo 600. any one looking for a treo 300? i have put it up on ebay, item # 5762555498
