A federal judge denied Research In Motion Ltd.'s request to enforce a $450 million settlement reached between the BlackBerry maker and patent firm NTP Inc., reopening the way for NTP to
seek an injunction on BlackBerry sales in the U.S. "The court finds the parties do not have a valid and enforceable settlement," said the order filed by U.S. District Judge James R. Spencer. "RIM's motion to enforce the parties' settlement agreement is denied."
In addition to throwing out the settlement term sheet, the judge also denied RIM's motion to stay proceedings pending the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's reexamination of NTP patents.
