I listen to the radio a lot while working, and one of the programs I listen to frequently is Glenn Beck. This morning, Glenn discussed a lot of problems he has had with his Kyocera phone. From his description, I'm guessing that he has a Kyocera 7135, but he didn't actually say that. The clues he gave were - Kyocera, $500, Verizon, and Palm. He didn't give a lot of details on the problem that he was having, but he ended up on the phone with Verizon Wireless support for several hours. Then he had to wait several more hours because the first person he spoke with couldn't help with a Mac.
Glenn's conclusion was that he needed to stop using anything IBM based, and go totally Mac. I'm not sure I would have drawn the same conclusion... after all he had to wait longer because he had a Mac. In any event, that's his decision. I'd like to find out what happened, and see if we can't help him get that 7135 doing what we know it can do for him. I'd hate to see him go un-converged over this!
I've sent him an email offering up the pdaPhoneHome Team and community to help him with his 7135, and I hope he'll take us up on it. You can check out Glenn Beck at http://glennbeck.com

Cool! It would really be great if he took you up on it, and we were able to help! (I'm useless on the Mac side of things though... and I definitely don't see the logic in his idea of going all Mac, at least not in the context of whatever the particular problem is that he's having).

We certainly have several Mac-savy users here (I'm not one of them.)
Hello,
For Christmas this year, I got an IOU for the Kyocera 7135. The phone was taken off the shelves about two weeks before Christmas due to some software gliches. I'm still trying to get a strait answer. I heard from one salesperson that the glich was compadibilty with Verizon's servers and the phone. Another salesperson at a different store said Kyocera found some major flaws in the phone's software and quickly halted production and sales of the phone until the glich was repaired. Verizon has not given a date for the phones re-release, and I'm still waiting on a reply from Kyocera. So, I'm assuming Glenn Beck has run into the "gliches." I'm sure once the problems are solved, Kyocera or Verizon will release some updates or recall notices for the phones.
Though currently selling my 7035 on eBay, I just wrapped up 6 mo's of hard use of this phone across several Macs. I work for Apple part-time and provide technical support for Mac-based systems full-time.
There is hardly any Apple tech question I cannot find an answer to so any questions Glenn (or any other PDAPH used) or any other PDAPH user might have on integrating the 35' and a Mac feel free to contact me at hirtle@nospam.southernct.edu (excluding the obvious addy filter).
I'm not familiar with Mr. Beck, but I too have had chronic problems with my 7135 over 9 months. I'm currently researching getting a new Samsung i700 or other pdaphone if necessary.
I'm new to this forum. Is there a central place where I can get info on getting the thing to stop crashing daily? My first preference is to avoid having to learn a new piece of equipment AND a new OS (Palm -> Pocket PC).
Search, search, search. If I was having daily problems, I would try a clear phone (hard resets, no apps at all) for a few days. is the phone stable then? If so, it tells you it's an app you have installed. If no, warranty...
Thanks for the input. I have tried hard resets several times, and there is no clear pattern to the computer's response after a hard reset. Sometimes it will immedeiately fault again two or three more times. Sometimes it will be OK for a few days or a couple of weeks.
I have tried the warranty route, and have received two more handsets. All three have had the same problem, so I conclude it is not a problem with the specific hardware I got. It looks like a model-wide problem.
I have been in touch with Verizon, and they are recommending I go to another brand pda-phone [after blaming it on the equipment for the better part of a year]. Many calls to Kyocera support resulted in them telling me that ALL software I install needs to have been written specifically for he Palm 4 OS. In my opinion, this amounts to saying the phone is not truly 'Palm compatible', and it is virtually useless as a computer, since most programs won't run on it.
Do any of you know if the new software upgrades that have been developed by Kyocera but NOT used by Verizon are useful?
I still can not figure out, the MAC thing. Finne he owns a MAC, but that has nothing to do with the phone. And if he wants to stay away, what is he going to use. Apple does not make a PDA/Smartphne (YET). So no matter what he will still have a problem. Or did I just read this whole thing wrong.
