I note there is an HTML like formatting capability with this board. Apparently it's called vB.

Why does it not seem to work for me? I often seen the "raw" HTML-like text strings.

If you could point us to an example that would be helpful. Though, it is most likely artifacts left from transfering database data from phpbb bulletin board software to vbulletin. So, there are differences in syntax for quoting and smileys, and that's why some of the older posts/threads will look messed up.
