I don't know if I would go so far as to say that... they have been out of town for a while, and it's possible that we are pushing phpBB to it's limits and having problems that can't easily be solved without switching to a new platform. This is something that jimmyjoe and jazz said they would address immediately when they return.
well, today is the one month aniversary of this thread.

seems like i may not have gone far enough.

the problems were around and building long before this thread started (ONE MONTH AGO).

1 month in internet time is like 10 years in real time, right?

this is in no way an attack on the management.

same probs for over a month is pretty crappy attention to the members, IMO.

i guess, we'll just sit by and wait, wait, wait, wait.

i also don't understand why there are only 3 moderators for 3,000 members on forum.

one moderator per 1,000 members

obviously they need more. all the dup posts and misplaced threads just sit there. the only thing i've seen a mod do since i've been coming here is close the thread/poll on pauljlucas .

anyway, i'm a happy camper... sorta not

[quote:01ca032ad9="iBug"]

i'm sick of the probs and it is obviously slowing traffic on this forum.
this board will probably self-destruct when the 7135 comes out, if not before.[/quote:01ca032ad9]

This is exactly my concern, and the reason that I'm pushing to re-align the forums. I think it will help us maintain, grow, and remain valuable, viable and relevant if we put a little elbow grease into firming up the structure - (content-wise, not db/infrastructure-wise; like iBug I know less than diddly about that stuff so will not be so dumb as to shoot off my mouth about that!)

I think we can support our goals by:
[b:01ca032ad9]Splitting the PALM-centric posts out of the current forums [/size:01ca032ad9][/color:01ca032ad9] [/b:01ca032ad9]-

In order to keep as many smartphone users as possible involved in the boards, we need to centralize whatever information we can that is common to various hardware. Othwise I fear we will loose the 6035 crowd early, and in basic terms either we're expanding or contracting - I vote for expanding. In fact, I would propose an inital re-alignment to include not only
[b:01ca032ad9]PALM FORUM
6035 FORUM
7135 FORUM[/b:01ca032ad9]
but also
[i:01ca032ad9][b:01ca032ad9]OTHER HARDWARE FORUM[/color:01ca032ad9][/b:01ca032ad9][/i:01ca032ad9]

That way we can be open to other smartphone users getting involved, and split out new groups as warranted. I wouldn't expect a lot of activity there soon, but like I said, if we're not expanding, we're contracting; so let's leave a door open for expansion.

[b:01ca032ad9]Nuking the FAQ Forums[/size:01ca032ad9][/color:01ca032ad9] [/b:01ca032ad9]-
to be replaced by closed, moderated FAQs for 6035, 7135, and Palm-specific issues. (I don't want to delete the FAQ-discussions, but I think the house-cleaning will be most effective if we cull all of the relevant FAQ [b:01ca032ad9]information[/b:01ca032ad9], organize into a much more accessible format, and then clear away the old posts to make way for questions that are relevant to the new FAQ documents.

Sorry if I'm getting repetitive and/or preachy... but I want to see the smartphone source continue to be a valuable resource for my own selfish reasons

ibug,

as i posetd to you, if you see dup posts then let me know or JJ or Jazz...

yea the board has some issues but their technical in scope and not because its only3 mods to 3k members. we have been doing fine with the board in terms of keeping things together.

you really cant complain about this board. you are able to roam here and post your thoughts FOR FREE! i would be complaining heavily if i were paying to use this site and had the issues we have seen.

relax. ive been here since day one and love the board. when the admins are back in the office, they WILL get it straight. dont worry.

as long as you state your issues so they know about it, that will make the board much better. :

hey marc,

did you even read my post to the end
not complaining... concerned
this is my smartphone home too, just like you and everyone else.

all i have stated are concerns for the forum breaking down and going away.

maybe you should direct your vigor toward cleaning up the dups and such instead of asking me to tell you where they are. they are everywhere. if you want me to do that job, turn on the permissions and i will get right at it.

i am a mod on several other boards, but really like talking about the smartphone that has gained a high place in my daily life.

i want the board to regain it's full functionality and have volunteered as have others to help in that process to the extent i am capable.

lighten up on those of us that are trying to help toward a solution, please.

well it goes to show you that words on a screen can give out a totaly different feel of what the person is actually saying...

ii mean no harm or anger towards you my friend, but when you speak of the duplicate posts that are lingering around i dont see them. granted, there maybe some archived thread that may have them but all of the current postings are taken care of, as im sure you can attest to.

im glad you mod other boards (i do myself), and i bet you rock! but my main point is lets not get irritated to much here since we have free reign to the site... thats all i wanted to say... anybody whos been here long enough wiill let you know i dont get angry or upset at anyone!

Assistance in keeping things running....

If you folks(Admins and Mods) could use a hand in keeping things up and running smoothly, I am def willing to lend a hand. I have alot of experience in making thing work(esp in ways they were not ment to), from my 9 plus years in the Air Force as a programmer/Sys Admin/DBA.

Impossible to read last posts on some threads

FYI, if you are having problems seeing the last few posts in a thread, due to the database issues (for instance the "I have one" thread under the 7135 forum) you can force the forum to show you the new stuff. Simply edit the URL in your browser so that the section labelled "&start=" is given a higher number (but not too high).

For example, to see all of the posts in the thread mentioned above, I enterred:

http://www.smartphonesource.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=3308&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20

Hope this workaround is helpful to someone. (And that you don't [b:9cdeaf84e0]need[/b:9cdeaf84e0] this tip to [b:9cdeaf84e0]see[/b:9cdeaf84e0] this tip.

thanx for the public support.
several others have expressed the same via pm and email, fearing retaliation if they posted their concerns here. it seems that for some reason, a handful of the members here act like this board is doing us a favor.
wrong attitude

i doubt we will get our fees back. and the admin & main mod have been "out of the office" for what, over a month now? i think our money has run away.

The interesting thing is that there is a simple fix to all this. As an administrator or a different phpBB board as well as a vBulletin board, it's easy to see that the problems here are from an out of synch DB. There are options in the admin panel to fix these issues.

I've emailed everyone at the helm letting them know the fix and with any luck we should be back in business in no time.

Guys, I ain't gonna be much help here other than to say, I've used this site for almost all my Kyo questions for some time now, and the whole breakdown thing is really a drag. Participation is hampered in a big way and I'm frustrated enough that I check in regularly to this thread just to see if any headway is being made.

Well, I'm putting out some good vibes that a solution will be found.
