Smartphone OS HTC Iris leaked at FCC

The FCC site has information about a new HTC device code named Iris. The size and layout of its buttons bears some resemblance to the Palm Centro, although it is powered by Windows Mobile 6 Standard and features WiFi. So it lacks touchscreen, but gains WiFi.

Here are some of the Iris's features as described in the FCC documentation:

CPU: Qualcomm MSM 7500, 400 MHz
RAM: 96MB
ROM: 256MB
Radio: CDMA EVDO
Digicam: 2 Megapixel (No Autofocus)
WiFi 802.11b/g

With no official announcement from HTC, its impossible to know where this device will be targeted in the market, but a little speculation could see HTC trying to compete on the low-end of the price market. HTC has been responsive to the market with their quick introduction of Touch-FLO to compete with the Apple iPhone, so its not that big of a leap to think of this device as possible competing in the $100 PDAPhone arena. We'll have to wait for an official annoucement before that will be determined. It is nice to see a new CDMA device coming.

This device has been available in Canada with Telus for a few weeks now. Came out around the same time as the Touch, November 1st' ish. Looks like a MotoQ a little bit... Here's the link Products and services / digital PCS / handsets / HTC S640 - TELUS Mobility - Alberta

Wow big deal, its a Moto Q with a 2 MP camera and Wifi. NO TOUCH SCREEN??? that sucks

Well the big deal here is that HTC has not thus far been producing devices in this form factor. Competition is always good, and I'd like to see a WM Professional (touchscreen) device from HTC to compete with Samsung and its i7xx line.
