<img src="images/news-ibm.gif" align="right">Don't get too excited just yet, because this device is intended for high security goverment applications. But, what if this were available in a different form for consumers?
IBM has teamed with Consumer Direct Link (CDL) to create a device that provides a much higher level of security than traditional PDAs. The Paron MPC is a pdaPhone that combines a Linux PDA with a GSM/GPRS mobile phone. As far as I know, that is a first. The device has integrated bimetric fingerprint recognition and a unique security oriented architecture. It also has built-in Bluetooth capability. The device also has CDL's proprietary encryption processor that will enable secure transmission of sensitive voice and data. The unit is 5.4 x 3.1 inches and weighs in at 8.8 ounces.
Who will be using them? Most likely the high security organizations like the Secret Service, FBI, police, and military organizations. Availability is expected in the February timeframe at an estimated price point of $500 from both IBM and CDL.
