Cool PDA Friendly Forum Skin - Public Beta

Ok folks, you can now test the PDA Friendly skin at http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/index.php?styleid=10 . If you need to get back to the fullscreen, it is http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/index.php?styleid=7 . Cookies should keep them set on the different devices, so it shouldn't be a problem. So, if you log in on your PDA and select the PDA skin, then it should stay that way on that device. You can log in with the same ID on your PC, and select the full screen skin, and it will stay that way also. The cookie controls it, so each device should remember the correct skin.

There are a few issues that I am aware of, but I wanted to get feedback from the community at large before having the developer fix it. This is a beta... meaning, it isn't expected to be perfect. Over time, the PDA Skin may become part of a premium offering that would be availble for a fee. The reason for this thinking is that the site is funded by advertising only, and there is not advertising on the PDA Skin. I'm not saying for sure that this will happen, just wanted to make you aware in case it happens doen the road.

Please report any problem in this thread, and I will try to keep a list of known problems in this first post.

Known Issues:

I just checked in to see if it was up yet and low-and-behold there's your post!

Logged in and like it very much so far. Will report more as I see it.

Thanks!

You might want to post something about it here: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65067&page=7 to generate a bunch of e-mail notifications. I went to do it, but it's closed.

So far the PDA site seems to work quite well. Would be great to have the post date inside the threads - maybe in the blue header next to the poster's name.

The only other thing I've noticed so far is just a personal visual preference. I find there is not enough differentiation between the threads on the New Post search results. Maybe a little more white space, or a little indent on the last line of the thread description - the one with the last post date.

Mike (convergent) asked me to to help with the beta test of the PPC version of the PDAPhone home site.

I've been using the "PDA Style Beta" since Mike first directed me to it last Friday.

I'm finding that it works really well -- without any problems.

Although I will say that it was kinda hard figuring our how to log out/in so that I could "re-cookie" my Samsung i730 so that it is permanently set to use the PDA Style template. The old PDAPhomeHome mobile beta was pretty straight forward and obvious when it came to logging out or in. The new one is rather obtuse.

Once I figured that out, though, its been smooth sailing and a joy to use, especially in landscape screen orientation using full screen mode (I use PIE+)

It's clean, clear and a joy to work with.

One minor bug. When you select the "first new post" icon, it will jump to the correct page in the thread, but stays at the top of the page, rather then jupming to the post. I can live with that, but I do wind up reading the same messages several times sometimes.
