Convergent,

The comments above pretty well cover the "wishlist" for optimal PDAPhH functionality in mobile mode.

So, to summarize (and include a few features that weren't mentioned), the most useful capabilities missing from the PDA skin seem to be these:

1) post dates/times,
2) post numbers,
3) access to member profiles and ability to initiate a PM from within a thread,
4) ability to render attachments/certain graphics (perhaps configurable via Display Options?),
5) read/unread posts markers,
6) ability to toggle between PDA and full-screen skin (currently one-way only),
7) bulletproof Preview function (easy to lose draft reply as it's now unbuffered/uncached),
ability to view and quote the post to which you're replying,
9) formatting tools,
10) access to certain Forum/Thread tools (e.g., Subscribe),
11) direct access to Member Console/Control Panel,
12) auto-parsing of URLs (URLs added to posts must be coded manually to be rendered as hyperlinks), and
13) duplicate navigation at bottom of each thread page (or at least, link to top of thread page).

In an earlier reply, you said:

I'm not sure I was envisioning people trying to download to their PDAPhone. My thought was that most people use the mobile version just to stay caught up if they are out of the office... but still use their desktop as their main entry point.

You know, as 'convergence' penetrates the culture, this expectation becomes progressively less reliable. With wide deployment of broadband and Wi-Fi, many folks will rely on the site's mobile version as their primary interface. (Time for a PDAPhH interface usage poll?)

Charge for a Premium membership if appropriate, but don't demand paid membership for access to the PDA skin. At some point not far down the road, *most* access will be mobile.

And thanks for PDAPhH. You're making a big difference here.

One thing ... I was using the pda friendly version ... at the bottom of every page was a link "Full Screen Version" ... I clicked that to get some more options when poting a reply .... when I wanted to go back to the pda friendly version it took me an hour to find these links ... Any chance you could put a link "PDA friendly Version" if you are in full screen?

That's interesting... we've not made any updates to the PDA skin recently, so this is not by design. Is it still doing it?

We'll look at that when we do further updates to this. Honestly, I'm not making any changes to it at present just because of time constraints and tight financial resources... but it will eventually get done. In the mean time, to toggle back to full screen mode, you just need to add &styleid=1 to the url. If there is not a ? in the url already, then you need to add ?styleid=1 . One of them should work.

Thanks! Thanks for forwarding to this link, this is exactly what would be useful when away from desk! It's nice to be able to view information on and about pda's from anywhere!!! Thanks again!

P.S. This "PDA Friendly Forum Skin" would be a great sticky "PDAPhoneHome Newbies " front subcategory...

The PDA-friendly version is:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/index.php?styleid=10

You can return to the full version by changing the styleid to 7 like:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/index.php?styleid=7

Question, and I should probably just google this, but since a mod is here. If I favorite the "styleid=10" in PIE, will that override my account setting/option for fullscreen? I changed to PDA-friendly on my i760 and when I signed in on my desktop it was still in PDA-Friendly. Anyway to combat that?

I hope I made sense...
