AIM 2.0 for Pocket PC 2002 using Siemens SX56 and AT&T Wirel

I just purchased AIM 2.0 for Pocket PC 2002 for my brand new Siemens
SX56 wireless PDA with AT&T Wireless service. The machine can surf the
web no problem using the wireless GPRS connection. However, I cannot
access AOL instant messaging service with this new software I just
purchased from Handango (AIM's Reseller) for $19.95. Upon Handango's
suggestion, I have reinstalled the software, but I keep getting the
immediate error message each and every time when I try and connect,
which is: "unable to establish a connection". I have had AOL and AT&T
wireless support on the the phone on a conference call and they
basically speak different languages and thus could not help me. They
both say that neither one of them supports AIM. I don't want to be
forced to accept a refund on this product since it is critical to my
job. Do you folks have any suggestions? Unfortunately, Handango couldn't
help either since they don't support AIM; they just sell it (strange). I
have read all the FAQ's available and nobody can help thus far. It
appears to be some sort of "port" or "host" problem or "proxy" problem.
Basically, I need the CORRECT INFO to put into the AIM SOFTWARE SETTINGS
and AT&T wireless gave me a port number of 9203 and an IP address of
010.250.250.250 and that did not work. Then we tried to check off Proxy
and we put "localhost" as the Host and 9090 as the port again checking
off socks4 but that didn't work either. We have verified a strong GPRS
connection since the phone has no problem accessing internet sites such
as Google via the wireless GPRS connction. Therefore, I have made sure my GPRS connection was on and strong before attempting to connect to AIM (obviously this is not the problem) Basically, I need to know a
step by step process to set up AIM 2.0 for pocket PC 2002 on the Seimens
SX56 with AT&T Wireless mMode service, since nobody at any of the companies seems to know this information. Please Advise.

Further Trials fail

FYI:

My GPRS connection uses a proxy server with the following settings

SERVER PORT
HTTP localhost 9090
WAP 10.250.250.250 9201
SOCKS 127.0.0.1 1080

SOCKS4 -- chosen

I have tried putting all these combinations into the proxy settings in AIM 2.0 and each time I get the exact same error: Immediate response saying "unable to establish connection"

Even though I can surf the web with my GPRS connection.

Does anybody have an SX56 with AT&T wireless who is using AIM 2.0 for Pocket PC ????

Steve

First make sure you have an established GPRS connection. At the AOL applet, tap the the left button/Setup. The only thing you should fill out is Host = login.oscar.aol.com & Port = 5190. Everything else should be unchecked. Let me know if this works!

I dont know why but the European version seems to work just fine. Here is where you can download it for free.....sux that I paid $20 for it.

The settings are exactly what raycarroll said. I tried installing the US version again and no luck working.

Same problem with Terminal service Client

The TSC on my Siemens SX56 does the same thing. GPRS is all set up and IE works fine but if I try and TS into my server in the internet (not lan, so no it isn't a firewall problem) it gives me the same error that your AIM gave you.

I also have an SX56 and the same problem. What I do is connect manually to GPRS and then disconnect. Then immediately open AIM and connect. It usually will then dial. I have never been able to get it to connect by connecting manually first or by letting AIM try to connect itself, without connecting and disconnecting manually first. I guess AOL software will never get better.
