Now Available: Generic Shortcut Plug-In

Verizon's News and Data Card shortcut is pretty useless, so...

RJShortcut is a Smartphone 2002 Homescreen Plug-In that allows you to create a static iconbar in any homescreen definition. Although tested only on a Samsung i600, it should run on any standard Smartphone 2002 device.

Unzip the package in an empty directory on your PC, make sure your Smartphone is connected to your computer and ActiveSync is running, then simply run rjsetup.exe.

Full instructions in the readme.html.

Removed attachement, replaced with link to latest.

Nice RemyJ !!!
That is a big deal for i600 users as well as the possibility for all to use this so homescreens using this plugin can be used by all.

I posted it on Modaco.com as well with full credit to you. I hope that is okay.

I agree, nice job, Remy. This has a lot of potential. I'll have to get into customizing it.

Hey, does anyone else have the 'Time' overlayed over the 'Day of the Week'? Mine, for instance, has the time displayed on top on the word 'Sunday'.

How about a date/time plug-in that you can use C strftime style formatting so you're not restricted to the date/time formats set in Regional Settings?

I'm also thinking about a single master plug-in that accepts tags from many of the common individual ones.

Thanks!

The time and date in the sample homescreen are anchored to the left and right sides of the screen respectively and grow towards the center. They're going to overlap if the date is too long. I don't use the D-O-W option myself.

This is exactly the reason I'm thinking about a date/time plug-in as my next project. I'l like to be able to abbreviate the date as "Sun, Feb 8 2004" for instance.

Ahh, I see. I changed my 'Long Date Style' and that took care of it.

Hey, I've tried a couple of passes at altering an existing xml file, but I just ended up with a corrupt file that wouldn't load as a home screen. Is there a source of information regarding the 'rules' for these files?

msdn.microsoft.com

You can also check the XML integrity itself by just opening the file in Internet Explorer. It will tell you about unbalanced elements, missing closing quotes, etc.

If you're taking requests, how about a tasks plugin that shows:
Tasks: A(12) C(10) O(1)

A=Active
C=Complete
O=Overdue

Or something like that.

There's a million different plugins I can think of. It's just nice having contact with someone who is actually able to make them. keep up the good work.

I used the plugin in a homescreen that I had previously created in the past. Now the link to my shorcuts screen works on all phones. (with the plugin installed)

Try the homescreen here:
http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=94680

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the action button to open the shortcut to the links screen.

The plugin is included with the download as well as the AlarmPlugin by RichieM.

OMG...you're the man!
Since the on-board task program stinks.....can you have the option of customizing which program launches when you click on the plugin....such as Developer One's PowerTasks???

That could probably be arranged.

Hi all:

Two potentially dumb questions....

(1) how do you find a plug in? In other words how do you know that "plugin clsid="{95976968-45D5-40c9-9779-2B859B1C2FEC}" is the profile plug in??

(2) With the Alarm plug in mentioned in this thread, I was able to paste it into an exsiting home page that I use & like, but the color of the "Alarm" text is blue and I need it to be white like the rest of my home page text. I know enough to be dangerous when editing the XML, but I can't seem to override the color of the Alarm plug in text. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

1. No way of knowing other than reference info, like release notes with the plugin, or e.g. the MSDN Library article about SP2002 Homescreens.

2. The Alarm plugin supports the 'background' and 'format state' tags. See this thread for examples.
