mac/i550.... again....

I'm another 'lucky' Mexican resident who has just acquired... and fallen in love with.... a Samsung sph i550. It's on the whole a beautifully and thoughtfully designed toy--er, tool. Alas, I'm also another 'unlucky' Mac user. Is there no help for us [you know, all 7 of us who have the i550... and all 3 of us in Mexico who have Macs]? My i550 runs Palm OS v 6.0.2. Has anyone made any progress getting mac to sync??? ???

Yes, Iusacell. I suppose they 'dumped' the units here in Mexico when Sprint pulled. It's N-O-T cheap. And... btw, I goofed: I read the information off the Spanish-language superimposed label on the box, which is almost guaranteed to contain misinformation. The version of Palm is 5.2.5 . It's all in English. (No Bluetooth; no voice commands). My last cell phone was jurassic-era; this is a really sharp learning curve for me. Worth it, entirely. The other high-end unit offered by Iusacell here is the Treo. I've used it, handled it... and it is definitely in many respects a 'smoother' more ergonomic design. But it just has no sex-appeal. Each time I pick it up, my i550 still gives me a thrill...

I phoned samsung support in mexico and they are a bunch of a**h***s, they say there is no support for. Although if you plug your i550 the mac will recognize it as a modem, nonetheless I havent been able to make the Palm software or the missing sync recognize it and have a succesfull sync.

Anyone else???

oh btw, I called samsung support in the US and they say they cant help me as they are not selling this phone.

YES, THEY ARE. NOOOO SYMPATHY, NO INTEREST, NO DESIRE TO HELP. NO CONCEPT OF CUSTOMER SERVICE WHATSOEVER.

STILL NO. AND HONESTLY, I HAVE GIVEN UP THINKING THAT ANY CONFIGURATION OF WHAT'S ALREADY OUT THERE WILL DO IT. IT WILL HAVE TO BE WHEN/IF SOMETHING NEW COMES ALONG. AND IT MAY NOT, GIVEN HOW LIMITED THIS PHONE IS IN DISTRIBUTION.

SAME HERE. JUST INFURIATING. MY SADDER-THAN-SAD STORY IS THAT I'VE MUCKED UP LIKE THIS 2X. FIRST I WENT TO ALL THE TROUBLE & EXPENSE OF IMPORTING AN A900, BELIEVING (LIKE A DORK) THE CELL COMPANY'S ASSURANCES THAT I COULD UNLOCK IT AND USE IT HERE. IT WAS A HARD LESSON. I SOLD IT ON EBAY FOR A SLIGHT LOSS, AND FIGURED I'D PAID MY "STUPID TAX" IN FULL. EVIDENTLY NOT, THOUGH--BECAUSE NOW HERE I AM WITH THIS VERY EXPENSIVE DREAM PHONE... AND I CAN'T USE IT TO ANYWHERE NEAR ITS FULL CAPABILITES. I LOVE MAC. LOVE THIS PHONE. JUST WISH THEY WOULD LOVE EACH OTHER...

I thought that maybe there is a software out there that allows network sync to mac, same feature offered in windows through Palm desktop. That way you can plug the phone to a windows pc and then make it sync through the LAN to the mac.

Is that possible??

Also I have been thinking in getting a bluetooth SD card for Palm and see if it works and maybe that way we can sync doing a "normal" Palm sync through bluetooth

Mac and i550

My Treo 650 just died and while I have replacement insurance, I'm pretty angry at the damn thing.

Missing my SPH-i500, I was wondering what the Mac Sync status on the i550 was. If it really won't sync under Mac OS X, it's not an option for me, but I figured it would show up as a generic USB/Palm device under the HotSync Manager.

If not, I guess I have to decide if it's worth resurrecting my old SPH-i500 or getting my replacement Treo 650, which has been annoying me lately. I really miss my flip Palm phone.

anybody had any luck hotsyncing i550 with Mac?

I see these message are from some time ago, so I'm just wondering if anyone has been able to hotsync an i550 with a Macintosh. I just got one and I'm trying to get it to hotsync before I try to get it to work on some network here in the US. May be a fools errand...but I hope not. Any advice appreciated!

successful i550 to Mac sync

I am pleased to report that that my i550 is now syncing nicely with Palm Desktop on my Mac (and anything else I want it to sync to, it seems. Missing Sync by markspace.com does it. Now on to the service question...

You mean to use a Mexican i550 on Sprint...not gonna happen, ever.

If anyone does want a Sprint i550, they can always make me an offer!

The service will be the hard part -- at least on Sprint or Verizon...

The only thing that seems technically possible on Sprint (aside from getting a Sprint branded i550) would involve changing the ESN of the phone to an ESN that exists in Sprint's database.

Unfortunately, it seems that's illegal since it violates the Digital Millenium Copyright Act... Still, it might be worth a try. I played around with ROM flashing a bit on the i500.

Keep us posted.

Well, there are only two possible outcomes: a soaring victory or a soul-shattering defeat.

Let the games begin!
