I agree it's a bigger issue than just the i550. If we can tap into the "I'm-pissed-off-with-lack-of-choice-in-cell-phones-in-general" market it could only help our cause.
Originally posted by William To be honest, I like the Treo 650 GSM and would not switch to the Samsung SGH-i550 even if it is released. However, I believe in capitalism and competition and, although I still prefer the Treo 650, I think the Samsung SGH-i550 is a worthy competitor and should be released. I signed the petition.
I just wanted to to say thanks and sorry I missed your comment earlier. Choice is so good.
By the way - was just in Puerto Vallarta Mexico - and the i500 is popular among the business people I saw one day - don't know carrier or details - but they just got the phone in the last two months.

This page did not load for me when I tried it today, but if the intent is to have a site to promote what a great phone the i550 would be to the masses, just remember that nothing screams unprofessional as a free GeoCities, MyFreeWebsite, or similar address.
A domain name is $9.20/year (fees totaled) via GoDaddy.com, and a true domain webhost is dirt cheap. Maybe a "wewantthei550.com" or similar would be a much more impressive looking/sounding thing... So. My offer.
I provide hosting for over 70 accounts, mostly renaissance festival related, and would be willing to donate webspace and bandwidth for such a site if there is a good enough idea for doing something like that.
Maybe a new topic is needed?

very gracious offer! who wants to take him up on that?
i would certainly like to.
that was a link i posted in hopes for a website "review" by this forum.
you are certainly right, that this site is quite unprofessional. and i'm not going to argue that if you are donating webspace/bandwidth, that that would be a bad thing. but i would like to stick up for the current website. we are not trying to make a case that we are a huge entity and that we have authority to make sprint do what we want them to do. it's kind of the point that Sprint just kind of cancelled the phone on us, the "little guys", little guys who have never made a web page before but are so disappointed have done so now, on geocities websites, using Yahoo Pagebuilder, no less. it pleads to other "little guys" for signatures.
and anyway, the website, i don't feel, is the real failing point of our crusade right now. since i can check page hits, i can see that there seems to be a very positive ratio of page hits to petition signatures gained. however, bottom line is, page hits are way too low. we just can't get the word out. (we broke 600 today by the way)
Originally posted by monkeyboy So what exactly are the plans on presenting this petition to Sprint ?
Since we were getting close to 600 I sent an email to Sprint last weekend (to Consumer Products and Services), but I haven't had any response yet. We're now up to 613 sigs.
Sadly, I can't think 600 buyers would even be a drop in the bucket. It would be nice if we knew some demographics here. For example, if we knew how many i500s were sold, and could tell what percentage of them frequent this place, you could say that "we" represent a certain percentage of i500 owners. Statistically. Then, if we knew what percentage of us here with i500s signed the petition...
But even then, even if 100% signed, that would still mean the i550 wouldn't be any more popular than the i500 (if statistics were true, and we can't predict future sales). Though we could then tell (if more than our percentage signed) if it might have a higher demand. (Really impossible stats to figure out, but you can do anything with numbers.)
Out of curiosity -- does anyone know of a PetitionsOnline campaign that ever resulted in anything? I know tons that have not (including Disney fan campaigns with hundreds of thousands of signatures)... Never hurts to try, I guess.
It would be nice to know, from Sprint, how many i550s they'd need a sales committment to before they'd offer it. (What is their worst selling phone they support? Would more people buy an i550? Would less, but it makes higher profit?)
Random thoughts.

the T608 was released by sprint after an online petition gathered 2467 votes. however, many say that the phone was not really cancelled in the first place.
it was a limited release, only 10,000 made. so i guess 10,000 was an economically feasible release number? and it was only a factor of 4 more than the number of petition votes.
i hear the release of the sgh-i530 was only around 2000 phones. that's within a factor of 4 of the number of petition signatures we have already. of course, the i530 might not have been economically profitable. could've only been doable as publicity thing for the olympics.
please don't point my numbers don't really mean anything. just food for hope, slim to none as it may be. but it's fun.
Is the I550 still worth fighting for? I dont know becaus I dont really keep up with whats going on in the phone market, but it seems like enough time has gone by that someone else shouldve come out with a comparable or better phone than the 550 by now?! but if Sprint continues to piss me off every month with billing I am going to cancel and may consider selling my 550. If I do, I will make a post to let you guys know about it first. but dont blow up my PM box.......I'll let you know if that time comes.

very gracious of you to keep us in mind. i'm sure that there is more than one person on here with more money that i, haha. i wonder how high the bidding might go!
but i cannot imagine how Sprint is pissing you off so much... what's going on?
Originally posted by blazorboy Maybe he is trying to get his "550" to work on Sprintpcs??
i think he said his worked perfectly, Vision, PictureMail, and all.
that was part of the reason for our big push for the petition to get the i550 released, for me, at least. i would not have made my little website for sprint to release the phone if i thought it was totally unreasonable. i wasn't asking, like some others, that they release it and support it. just gimme what you got, sprint, i'll be happy. and if it's THAT bad, i'd return it, and feel free to charge me a restocking fee. but from AudiSport's posts, it seemed not to be so bad at all. the fact that there is someone out there who, without any real techie knowledge or doing anything special, got his version of the i550 to work is what made me believe if i we tried hard enough, sprint might possibly just release some to us. apparently AudiSport just called up sprint to activate it as one would do with any other phone, and voila! i believe his i550 had later version numbers than i330's.
Well that might be the answer, "later version" with better f/w. I was not sure that he did, in fact, have the whole 9 yards. Maybe A4 will clarify once again.
