slim batt needed!

havn't found a slim battery on eBay or in the sale section of the forums. i just got my i500 this week and besides the SMS issue i think it's the greatest thing in the world. however, toting this giant brick around (included battery makes it like 1.25 inches thick) is not only a hassle but to whip that out in public is just plain embarrassing. i must have had 50 "is that your house phone?" comments in a matter of days lol. if someone wants to sell one, or knows of some site that'd be spectacular.

I am kind of flush with batteries, but not so much in the slim battery department. If you can't find one in the next few days, let me know and I will pry one out of my stash for ya.

BTW, looking at my original (SAMSUNG emobssed) big battery and the one that came with my "new" i500, the new one is about 50% thicker! Wonder if you get longer talk time with that extra size?

Unfortunately, I believe the answer is "little if any". The generic i500 batteries that I know about, that have been selling on ebay for as little as $3, were/are available in two different capacities, I think 1000mah and 1400mah. HOWEVER, these two are BOTH physically the same size as the Samsung OEM EXTENDED battery. The OEM batteries have the capacities, I think, slim: 900mah, standard: 1200mah, extended: 1600mah.

So, the generic batteries are only bigger because, apparently, they just found whatever cheap Li cells they could and built a housing around them. Hopefully you at least got the 1400mah version of the generic, because the 1000mah version is really stupid -- it is barely more capacity than the slim, for 3X the thickness.

I have a bunch of batteries that I use when I go on travel instead of carrying the charger. One is the slim, one standard and 3 non-OEM extended. My non-OEM's are 1700mah so I don't know about the above. When I eBayed them I found a bunch of 1400 and fewer 1700mah but the OEM slims were selling at about $50 a pop. Two of the batteries I got are great. They last great, meaning my normal talk time and standby time, for a couple of days each. The slim will go a day but not a day and night. The standard is pretty much a day, 24hours. And the one dud battery I got from the eBay sale lasts about as much as the standard.

The slim does make it more sexy and sleek but the talk time is little. Our stylii get in the way off battery space, it stinks but I love graffiti. I probably would give up graffiti for talk time though.

You could try getting the standard battery. They sell for less and are definitely thinner than the extended batteries.
