GSM replacement for i500?
My venerable i500 has about had it and I'm looking to replace it. I'd like to get a phone that is:
a) A palm/phone hybrid like the i500
b) GSM (preferably tri or quad band) - want to be able to use it overseas.
c) Would prefer the clamshell design of the i500 if at all possible.
d) Would like it if it included a camera or mp3 player (but not essential).
e) Don't mind paying more for a really good state of the art phone.
f) Don't care which carrier - I have Sprint now but my contract is up.
Any ideas? I've loved the feel of the i500 and I don't see anything out there like it. Am I just looking in the wrong places? Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Abe Z.

Also been looking.
I have been looking at the Moto "Ming" A1200. You can read about in on Phomescoop. It is a Quad band GSM phone, and It might fill the bill if the Opera Mini browser would work on it.
I have been useing the 'Opera Mini Browser' on My V195 with T-Mobile service. I am very happy with it. It is faster then the I500 using NWeb.
Here is a link to a company that sells them.

This does look like an excellent phone. Unfortunately I'm committed to using a Palm OS phone because my desktop PIM won't synch with other operating systems. Thanks though.

If you're committed to the Palm OS, then it's a Treo. AFAIK, it's the only one out there now.
Are you on a Mac? You may have other options it that's the case. Let me know. I won't waste bandwidth outlining it all if it's a different issue with syncing...

Thanks, that's useful to know. I'm on a PC and the requirement to use PalmOS is because Ecco, the program I keep all my calendar, to-do's, and addresses, and which I love, will synch perfectly with a Palm, but not at all with the other OS's. So I guess I'll get a Treo 680. Thanks for the help.

Well, if you can wait until next month, there's the iPhone. It should sync about as well as anything with a Mac, since it's going to use a version of OS X, and the calendar and addy book apps on it will be versions of iCal and Address Book.
I hate to say it, because I dislike Windows Mobile so much, but with the help of The Missing Sync, you can sync a WM device with Mac. I'm not going to let my dislike of it from letting you know about the option. As it is, I use TMS to sync my Palm device with my Mac, works nicely.
That having been said, I left my beloved i500 behind, and I'm using a Treo 700p now. I'm happy with it. If I were in the market, I'd be looking hard at the iPhone. A 680 with AT&T will give you the GSM you want, as would an iPhone.

For that Moto "Ming" A1200. It's OS is Linux. Palm is suppose to have a Linux OS phone the will run Palm OS apps out, I guess some time this year. I wonder if you will be able to upgrade other MFG Linux OS phones to run the Palm Garnet OS some time soon. Or maybe that is wishful thinking.

Not PalmOS, not flip, GSM section is not for domestic usage. If you're willing to consider a non-flip phone, then the Treos are the obvious choice. If you're willing to consider a non-PalmOS phone, but want flip, then the Cingular 3125, HTC Erato or the CDMA Pantech PN-820 are the choices for a flip that runs WM.
