Older Treos (PalmOS4) have to use this, too. Newer Treos use PalmOS5; browsers for that won't run on the i500 (or other PalmOS4 devices). PPCs use something else altogether, and it won't ever work on your Palm.

I've not had any problems (yet) with nweb. I certainly never had any fatal errors when using WebPro. For people who've seen that: did you use WebPro?

Yeah, I was generally aware of that... what I was really asking was whether the Treo browser also uses a proxy, meme pour le PPC, and whether we couldn't just use the same proxy.

The website that bombed for me on nweb was www.imdb.com, the Internet Movie Database. Just go there, lookup a movie and try to read its review info. All of it works fine on Blazer *and* WebPro, but resets nweb.

Mind you, that is really the first website I tried on nweb, but God knows what that means about other websites (I'm betting that nweb crashes *alot*). Certainly the other posted report here of random resets doesn't inspire confidence...

I just did exactly that. Clicked a ton of external and user review links. No crash on my i500. But it isn't exactly a made for palm site...

Are you sure you don't have some hack installed that's causing the crashes? I know Middlecaps played havoc with my i500

hmmm... well, I dunno...
yes of course I have hacks... but nothing remarkable: Xmaster, MarkNDial, FindHack. That's about it. And all are indispensible (i.e. I'm not willing to give up any of these). What is remarkable is that WebPro doesn't reset, but nweb does...

Perhaps I'll give it one more try. I also just d/l Xiino and it looks ok (and works fine on www.imdb.com).

BTW, I know that IMDB isn't made for Palm, but are you willing to restrict your webbrowsing to made-for-Palm sites ? I'm not...

Doesn't someone actually sell a new version of Blazer (that'll run on OS4)?

I've used WebPro on my phone before, but not since I got the blinking death a while ago. I restored my phone and WebPro wasn't working, so I deleted it. But before the restore, WebPro was working fine and it had no Fatal Errors. I do use some simple extensions, but my wife's phone, which she just purchased last week, has nothing but a few games and nweb on it. In fact, she had the first two crashes between us. *grrrr* I do a lot of web browing on my phone! They better not try to foist a buggy piece of software on us! I got crashes on Deviantart, she got a few crashes on some classic rock bands' websites. And we've only had the thing installed for a few days.

OK....this is making me nervous. While this seems to support Javascript, it doesn't seem to support https sites, so I can't logon to my web Outlook Exchange server. I couldn't do that with Webpro either, but I could with Blazer. Anybody tried to attach to secure sites? The specific message I got was
HTTP=invalid HTTP response
Effective URL is: (and then it lists the URL I had entered)

Please contact your system adminstrator

HTTP502 bad gateway

I just browsed around the IMDB with nweb with no frashes...

As for helper-proxies: Blazer3, which (I think) ships with the Treo600, is a proxyless browser so it will never have this sort of problem. But, it doesn't run on PalmOS4.

An option for a proxyless browser might be to try Opera mini (although it's still just a 'beta' release): http://operalover.tntluoma.com/8/opera_mini_on_treo
(lofi version: http://mytreo.net/downloads/details-...ra_Mini_-_LoFi)

It's a Java Midlet. I do not know if it will run using the older Sun-provided MIDP1, since the newest IBM MIDP2 requires PalmOS5.
