crazy question about broken pins???

I just got my new i500 and am having a great deal of difficulty in being able to hot synch my phone with the cradle. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. When I look at the small metal pins on my charger and cradle it appears that some are missing. Does anyone know what the "correct" number of pins should be.

My charger has only 5

My cradle has only 16

Thanks

Those counts are correct. The cradle has more because it has the data connection.

When you say "Sometimes it works, sometimes not", can you describe what does or does not work? What error messages, log files, etc. What OS are you running HotSync on? etc.

I get the message "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."

Other times, the hot synch works fine.

I am running windows XP.

Well, I find that I sometimes don't place my i500 in the cradle correctly, and thus, Windows doesn't notice the USB device connect (if you've got sound turn on, you get a ding-ding).

Anyone know what the correct number of pins for the USB cable that plugs into the cradle is? I am suddenly having trouble hotsyncing (causing a fatal error and what not) and am trying to troubleshoot. There only appear to be 6 pins on my cable which seems to low. Could some have broken off and be causing the problems.

Never mind, I just realized that the cable that plugs in is for cable and the USB is hardwired in. Brain cramps cause by a case of frustration at the prospect of losing all my data are to blame
